Statutory legal dimension hauling is pretty much universal in the continental U.S. Once you go to oversize, you've got 48 states with 48 sets of rules with 48 permits, and no 2 the same on everything, including hours of movement. About 95% of the freight my company hauls is oversize, and the first requirement to drive for me is to be a graduate of an accredited law school. I could tell stories of the penalties for violations or perceived violation of some of the statutes various states have, but you guys would either think I was lying or that over dimensional hauling was administered by the Gestapo or the KGB.
Yeah, pretty crazy.Last year a buddy took a 400SS to Vermont,he said screw the permits, his dually was a personal vehicle with no markings. His plan if he got stopped was to plead ignorance, hauling the boat for a friend, did not realize it was over width or over height. He had no problem at all. Risky, yes, but it worked.
