My grandfather drove landing craft in the pacific on several invasions, went on to Captain a couple diferent ships before retiring a carreer Coast Guard office. 97 years old and has been healthy untill just recently and was hospice. He was sitting in his recliner looking out the window, lives on a bluff in Coo's bay overlooking the pacific. Hee started having trouble breathing, my mom took his hand and said "if you want to let go, its ok. But would you like some Irish Mist first. " My grandpa smiled, drank his shot, took one last breath and passed with dignity.

May he rest in peace, he has earned it.

Sorry to hear that Rob, but what a way to say goodbye.

We were just in Coos Bay this summer. I love the Oregon Coast. Did not know your Grandfather lived there....

May he rest in peace.
May he live pleasently in your memories until you meet him again....

Take Care Rob.......

Sorry to hear of your loss Rob.

I can only hope that when my time comes I can go out as he did.
RIP, and God bless you and your family.

Rob, Is there any chance you have some favorite Coast Guard stories you could share?
