Truth About Swine Flu ? Your Opinion ????

What's your opinion? Is our government lying to us when they say 30,000 to 90,000 deaths in the US?

And remember when we didn't have vaccines for the mild flu strain of a few years ago? Now we don't have a single vaccine for this flu yet. And they are projecting best case scenario to have vaccines only for those at extra risk of death by the time it arrives full force.

Did anyone else catch that those over age 55 or so shouldn't need the vaccine????

Swine flu deaths climb, raising next-wave fears

"WHO reports at least 625 deaths across globe over past week.

Most of the deaths are in the Western Hemisphere, though the disease is in full-blown global epidemic mode.

The virus could eventually infect 2 billion people, or a third of the world's population, according to WHO estimates.

"In the best case scenario we have today, we will still have a moderate virus that is projected to cause several million deaths," Dr. Tammam Aloudat, senior health officer at the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, told a separate news briefing.

"Which means that even in the best case scenario, we do have an emergency on our hands, an emergency of a scale different from what we have seen before in the modern era," he said as the federation launched an information campaign.

as for the older people... viri have a set of "blueprints" with H1n1 being a retro-virus (rna) immune response is based on previous exposure. if the virus is VERY similiar to one that has circulated in the past, they can compare "blueprints". in this instance I believe a previous strain was similiar enough to a much older strain that older people should have an active immune response to it.

It seems most of the deaths had complications from other diseases/conditions. A local kid (age 21) just died yesterday but they said his asthma contributed to it.

If anyone here gets exposed to it, it will probably be me. being in the ER I am on the front lines....

I know. I've seen predictions as high as 70% of all health workers unavailable. I know you guys are second in line for the vaccinations. (After the politicians).....

My buddy's 7 year old spent a week in an oxygen tent this spring as a result of swine flu (in Buffalo NY). I'd heard (based on what Phragle said) that it actually bites kids worse than old people.

John, take 2 drinks and go to the corner...your in time out untill you get a better buzz on to improve your jokes.

I know. The joke svcked.
I was really pushing the wing thing. :)

You folks need to work with me a little bit here. :D

I'll come back with better jokes. :blush5:

Wasn't that bad. Besides, there is no Rat or Bat flu......:sifone:

I don't personally doubt swine flu's existence but have heard some medical professionals wonder if it's a hoax. Reality is something like 30k people die from flu year anyway (sounds like a huge number but from credible source). So the question is, are we gonna see more than 30k deaths from flu this year?

Latest stats for the US (projections from CDC), 30,000 from regular flu, 30,000 to 90,000 additional from Swine Flu.
