What's Happening
I could hardly believe it when I received the call. Carey was always a great one to shoot the crap with and could take as well as he gave. He and Frankie were quite the duo at Pier 57 for years, and then Carey went with the Shogren group. I just chatted with him at the Miami show for quite some time this year. He is gonna be missed.....

Man, just saw this from Brian Tillet on FB...some epic post Ho battles between Carey, Frankie , and Stecz........I met him at the Miami Boat Show in 2010....He said "I thought that you were some old guy" ...

Two killed when boat hits barge

Aug. 30– Two Hardin County residents were killed in a boat crash Saturday on the Tennessee River near the Mississippi state line, according to the Hardin County Fire Department.

The crash occurred around midnight when a bass boat traveling at a high rate of speed struck a parked barge loaded with coal close to the Goat Island campground in Mississippi, said Fire Chief Melvin Martin.

The victims, both from the Counce-Pickwick area, were identified as Carey Downs, 39, and Jeremy Floyd, 40.

Martin said the incident occurred around midnight, and Mississippi authorities requested aid from Hardin County first responders around 3:45 a.m. The first occupant of the bass boat was recovered at about 6:30 a.m. and the second at around 9:30 a.m.

Neither of the victims was wearing a flotation device, and both had been ejected from the bass boat, which remained upright and floating, he said.

According to the website Speedonthewater.com, Downs was a high performance powerboat enthusiast associated with Pier 57 Marine.
