Morays again drill first-place team in Jewfish League
By CITIZEN STAFF
KEY WEST -- For the second straight week the Morays upset a first place team this time they thumped the Roncos, 22-15, in Men's Over-40 Jewfish Softball League action last week at DeWitt Roberts Field.
The Morays and the Roncos came out swinging into the nightcap, talking trash and making predictions. The Roncos would take the early lead, highlighted by Bobby "Hookster" Davila's towering three-run homer and his prediction he would hit two home runs. But, he was to fall short with one.
The Morays batted through the order in the second inning, scoring nine runs for a lead that would stand up the remainder of the game. Not even Bobcat "Rally Killer" Mathews, who struck out looking -- seriously in slow-pitch -- could stop the Morays' bats.
Dylan "The Cornhusker" Kibler slugged a trio of two-base hits and singled for three RBI, Harry "Did I Miss That Call" Milliken homered, tripled and doubled sending a pair of teammates home, Scott Russell and "The Fabulous" Al Difabio each singled three times as Difabio etched a pair of RBI and Russell sent three across home plate. Tino Cubria thumped a three-base hit and two base hits, "The Pride of East Lansing," Joe Graciak, and Benny "Pocholo" Aleman each roped a pair of doubles and singled, Mathews, Willie Morales and Brant "Butters" Voss each hammered a double and a single as Chuck "The Wall" Malby cracked a pair of base hits.
