The Official 2009 Daytona 500 Thread

I'll have to remember that quote when my driver punt's your's out of the way and everyone's calling foul because he's a driver you don't like or driving different make of car... In this case he (Jr.) could have let off without consequence, heck he was completely below the double yellow and not just straddling it, he wasn't even on the racing circuit...

Sure racing is aggressive but drivers who are a lap down shouldn't do stupid things that affect the ultimate outcome of a race that they have no chance of winning regardless of how many fans you have or who your daddy was....

Who is your driver?

Just as many wrecks or more are caused by checking up.

I agree with you on the lap down thing.

If Vickers car would run he wouldn't have been able to hit him a second time.

first hit...get him loose...second hit...spin him out in front of the whole field and wreck half the field...sorry but it's a poor excuse at best...sounds like the democrats trying to explain there so called Stimulus "Out of Control Spending" Bill...

Most cars lunge ahead when you bump them in the rear on straightaways.

If you want to stay in front you have to stay in it. Don't be an old lady and pull in front and let off.

Starting to sound like you are a Vickers fan.

Who's my Driver....Why of course its Kyle Busch....who drives one fast Toyota...He run's to win and has the skill to back it up...

I agree checking up can cause as many wrecks but not in this instance there wasn't anyone on Jr. tail except for the poor souls who got caught up in the big one...

And I won't apologize for routing for a Toyota driver...

I own over 25 Fords, Dodges and Chevy's in our small fleet but also have a Lexus and a couple of MB's and they are great vehicles no matter where there from...

This should be fun. Your guy is good, but I don't like him a bit. I have many favorites as I have listed earlier. The only Yota guy I like is Mikie.. I would like to see him do well.

Kyle did speak well to the media today.

Hey Jim, We don't have to agree.

Next week is another race. Its all good, but Toyotas

LOL...I didn't think we would on this incident....next week is another race and from the looks of it right now it might be a repeat of last year....

Daytona's just one race on the schedule and there are 35 more to come...should be an interesting year to say the least...

Trust me I get as much flack as anyone else for liking KB, especially from a buddy who owns one of our local 1/2 mile tracks, but it's all good....

I have to agree. that was entirely Jr's fault. if he would have lifted slightly while way below the pack and then slid up nothing would have happened. no one is really crying foul because Jr is like the golden boy. Vickers shouldnt have gone as far as he did blocking though, Jr was still a lap down and no chance of winning.

problem is they were both a lap down and fighting for the "lucky dog" which is the reason Vickers blocked in the first place...there was a lot of racing left to do when this happened and like they say... "In order to Finish First you must First Finish"

So I wonder. I don't think the cup guys should run the Nationwide series for points.

If they wan to run for fun and track time fine.

I couldn't agree more....seems like the Nationwide is just "Sprint Cup Light" and really puts Nationwide Only teams at a huge disadvantage...

I wonder what would happen if one of the stars on the Sprint Cup circuit were injured and couldn't compete in the big series... I know racer's want to race any chance they get but on some levels is it really necessary...

agree there was a lot left, but do you put someone and potentially 10 other cars out just for a "free pass?" or do you avoid hitting someone and not get the pass? i know you do whatever you can to win, but where do you draw that line?

The problem is the young guys don't have as amny rides in the Nationwide series cuz the cup guys are in the cars. How will they learn?

As comedian Richard Jeni once said in his "Platypus Man" bit: "Let's go to the map".

Vickers, a Toyota, gets what he deserves from the most popular driver in NASCAR history, who takes out a strong car of the least popular driver in NASCAR history, another Toyota.

Now THERE'S an orgasm I won't forget right away!!!

Sure was funny listening to Jimmy Spencer last nite after the race on the Speed Channel. Gotta hand to that guy, he just doesn't care what he says or about who. He put the slam to Nascar and Jr hard. Next week should be interesting, the fun has just gotten started.

that was the worst powder puff 500 yet after 3 hrs of the redneck view with d.w. how on earth did they manage to turn it into such a whimpy bunch of cry babies let me see....F1 the most exotic car on earth runs in the rain yet our good old stock car is to delicate to get wet i don't get it. with the banking at daytona you sure don't have to worry about standing water so they will have to slow down or crash out come on lets get back to racing! it will show driver talent in a hurry i'll even bet it would be fun to watch

Its not the cars, its the tires. Nascar decided long ago to not have a rain tire because of the added expense to teams in having the supply of both types of tires. In this age of cost, not sure if the reasoning is still relevant. The teams spend tons of money anyway .... whats one more thing

An Cup car weighs 3 times what an F1 car weighs, and has about 1/2 the down force. The tires on a cup car are about 1/2 the width of the F1 tires. If they tried to run them at the speeds they run even with rain tires they would have no control.

They tried to run in the rain down in Montreal last year in the Nationwide event and it was something to see....especially with Carl Edwards hanging out the window trying to wipe his window clean with a squeegee...LOL

Nascar had warned everyone that they would do it in that series but not cup... Too bad most of the field didn't even bother to install wipers to there cars thinking Nascar wouldn't ever make them run in the rain....

I think on road courses they should be required and prepared to run in the wet but on an oval it would be one big crash fest and as we have all seen then don't need water to wreck themselves...
