Drives breaking off is driver error most if not every time IMO. A important part of racing is understanding the limitations of your equipment.

i think if someone is thinking of building and rigging a new race boat and didn,t consider JIM to do the whole job, would be leaving something on the table. if i were going to build a new race boat ,,, i would drop off the hull with him and , i,m sure you would go back and pick up a winning boat. with no gremlins in it, just sitting and talking with him and all hes ideas and experances, convienced me,

Most turns are "Just stay in it" but the north turn at LOTO was Me yelling "EASY easy,,,,,little more, little more , all of it, ALL OF IT, ALL OF IT" Whne we were running with Martin. The following day was quiet cruise control.
 
On the 525 motors.

What heads are on the motors. I have heard that depending on the year of manufacture they are different. Is this true? Is there any other differences?

Scott, Save it. You can talk about it when you see him if you choose. The rest of us here don't want to hear anymore about it.
 
Pat , I don't know about the present 525's maybe Smitty does. The original 500's carb had different heads than subsequent years.

I don't really know. I think that all the 525s used the Dart head, but to me it doesnt matter because we all port them anyway.
 
the early 525 had differant heads 2004? but 2005 to current are the same, however merc did do a recall and change 2004 s out or at least they did mine. but there was no hp differance, it had to do with overheating.issues.

The head on a 525 is made by Edelbrock for Mercury. Not really a high flow head, but the plenum and ECU controls the power anyway.
