The Great Unification

Right now the boats are within a 1/2 boat of each other going into the first corner so there isn't a need for any real tech. But if that were to change, god help them when I get done ripping thier chit apart. Most of you have seen my mechcanical skills! :sifone:

Here is my new plan. Obviously as you guys have made it clear, the biggest problem is getting all the boats to all the events. I mean, all the OPA events, after all where else would you go.........Anyway, the points thing doesn't work. Cause once a team falls behind what is the motive to go to the rest of the races. Prize purse? Never enough money. We tried last year in the Geico Triple Crown, to save all the money for the last race and have a big pay day. Still the teams that fell out of the points stayed home. Here is my plan for 2010. I have 50K. Sponsor soon to be announced. The 50K will go to ONE team. BUT to be that one team, you must enter every event. At the end of the season, all the teams that competed in every race is eligable for the 50K. We will put the teams in a hat, one guys gets the cash. So if lets say 50 teams raced the entire season, you have a 50-1 chance at 50K. Motivation at it's finest. On to plan B. Smitty

Depending on the races, I'd do a drop one lowest score like OSS does in SVL. That low score may be a broken boat or an event missed, but seems more fair to me.

We, (the svl class) are hoping for an exciting season next year. If all goes well, we hope to have 10 boats or more at every race. Time will tell.

Scott, if you are trying to make a point, please use logic in making it. Running a 525 Bravo against a 900hp #6 with skilled crews will never be a "fair" race. Being a paying boat count, might be your idea of great time but not for those of us who race. Regarding when you used to fill the SBI boat count, my understanding is that you were forced to run P-4. Arneson's are not an opition in SV.

Do you mean SV in OSS or in general? I know 38' Fountians run real good with the Arnesons, but OSS keeps things Merc only:(

Rik,

Please do not mess things up by saying the rules and the tech rules people are not bought and paid for anymore and they should go back to racing.

Please refrain from posting. People might get the idea that they could build their own boat, motor, transmission, drive and prop and go racing.... That would be bad.

Sorry sir, I was just meaning to point out that if he does not race OSS he could benefit from a set of Arnesons that will out perform his Bravo's :)

I'll keep quiet.

That may not be the case. I was just reading through the rules on the website. First paragraph reads as follows. I saw no drive restrictions.

OSS Vee Extreme Class

It is the intention of these Rules is to create a broad and fair competitive balance within each racing class. All boats racing in the Power to Weight Ratio Classes shall be bound by all OSS General Racing and OSS Safety Rules. In the event of a conflict between the Power to Weight Ratio Class Rules and the OSS Safety Rules, the OSS Safety Rules shall prevail. Any Team that is currently qualified under the UIM P1 Class Rules is automatically qualified to run in any OSS event.

You can find complete rules http://www.offshoresuperseries.com/racers.cfm

if its Vee, cat, baby buggy, whatever EXTREME....extreme means to me anything goes. Extreme should be just that, if you can buy it, build it or steal it from an underground lab at area 51, it's legal.

Above is one of two power to weight classes OSS adopted. Similar to P1's two classes. Read complete description in link select power to weight.

Jim, that is for the proposed "P1" rules that the Americans want to emulate but as section "B" points out, an existing boat qualifies. This seems to be written to exclude and new boats.

I was actually under the impression (I could be wrong) that OSS classes only allow Merc drive units. (Exclude extreme) P1 Racing is something new that they are trying to copy but it does not address new construction and drive manufacturers.

I understand eveyone wants or rather belives in Mercury and I can respect that but I would of course like to see eveyone having the chance to compete and let the racer decide. Just like they can with hull and propeller manufacturers.

V twin has not found its way. It was gone from of the largest class at various times with B class, F2 and early Super V 525. Presently and unfortunately it is among the most fractured category .

Above is one attempt. OPA has made an attempt with their SV class. Great class however, it is bravo based. The numerous other V classes country wide need to find some common ground. IMO.

I love V twin but, I have found more competition and enjoyment in SVL. Class 5 is another great single engine class.

Rik,
That was true but, I believe it is no longer the case in twin V.

I have lost interest in V twin personally but, when I looked I could find no restrictions in Extreme. The second mentioned production configurations.

Take the time to read and see if I am reading it correctly. I agree with you. Everyone should be free to pick in the top V twin class.
