The Great Unification

I think the point you are missing is simple. We knew going in it is difficult to get all the teams to travel to all the races. Our plan up front was to run races in areas where many of the teams are located. If 25 traveled we would pick up the other 20 at the site. Look at the series average.

As far as changing classes and brackets. Our classes continue to grow every year, basically because we have not changed a thing. A boat that was legal for a class 5 years ago is still legal, and will be as long as I am still standing.

No changes in the OPA rule book.

This coming year will set the mark for OPA. Save this thread, and call me in 6 months. Smitty

Smitty, I agree and wouldn't suggest to change a thing. It is a great series.

I hope a few joint races can fit in to your plan and others in the coming season.

Jim, congrats on Loto. What a can of whoop A@@. I watched on APB TV. It was awsome. I am pretty sure I made it perfectly clear. The door is wide open on our end. Smitty

wahoo, i'm not in a 100% agreement with what smitty did with P-2 into SV(525 and bravo only). i understand the arguement but the way the rules were tko just had a better mouse trap that was legal to race. i think that something should have been done to let him keep racing with you guys instead of just changing the rules liek you did. even though the new SV rule made it better for some in that class it pushed out TKO and bandit and in turned a 6 boat field into 4. plus now theres no more P2 for other guys that possible wanted to run P2.

105 is 105!!! sometimes you just gotta live with not having a first place boat.

plus in the safety first program want ever happened to having to have full enclosed canopies over 100 mph ??

Dave's point was that the rules were changed and therefore boats were made illegal and the class got smaller. I don't know all the particulars so can't say anything.

My understanding is that Class 2 is still avaiable, SV is a new class. The overall boat count between C2 and SV is down 2 boats, R Rated (not racing) and TKO running SBI. They can run C2 or detune to C3 or may be run C1. No other C2 boats have shown.

I believe that if SV didn't happen we would have lost more than 1 boat.

Both of the boats Skaterdave referred to are more than capiable of running class 1 speeds, but I dont how safe it would be for TKO.

Thanks Dean. I just know the number one complaint I hear from ex-racers who have boats sitting around is how rules changes made their boats obsolete after large investments and they won't get back in until the orgs do something about that. Seems like a good reason and not a lame excuse.

I had mutiple coversations with walter from TKO. Even if we had left class 2 alone. That is a class 1 boat all day long. Class 2 is still available, but only if there are at least 5 boats. Buy introducing SV, brought the Bad Boy Bandit out as well, but lets not look at the positive, thats no fun. Smitty

I know you don't have boats in every available class, so the classes are not all in the rule book. Is there an understanding of what all classes available in OPA are?

I agree the SV as you adopted is a great class. There are many boats that fit right in. It is a class with the proper target speed and overpowered boats have little advantage because of the drives.

You added Smitty......:sifone:

Sometimes we only get to hear the positive if the negative is brought up because that seems to be the way news works.

FYI, I think the change was the correct one. Just like I like SVL with the single 525 Bravo. Your class is an edge of the seat, driver/luck/competitive boat/testing/preparation class.

Are any engine modifications allowed to the 525?
