The Great Unification

Sad but actually true. My family loves to ski. When we were racing, I was the only one who actually got to do it. Also, we can ski for a week in Colorado for a fraction of what it cost to race one time. And while the actual ski run is not as fun, per se, as the race, you can make up for it by simply buying an old race boat, and hauling ass around the local bay, gulf, or ocean every weekend. And, every once in a while, you can trailer your old race boat to a buddy's place and run around against his old race boat in a pretend race. Then afterward, go to Hooters, eat wings, drink beer, and tell lies. The perfect combination of skiing and racing at a fraction of the cost!:sifone:

You just invented the Poker Run.............. again. :D :D

Just get extra boats so everyone can race.....

You'd be looking like the Geico team....

I agree with Rich...It is what it is. Nothing is gonna change. The strong will survive. Make the best of what we have and as Mike A. said "have fun and be safe". No one is making a career from racing. It's no different than going skiing out west for the weekend. An expensive hobby.

Exactly...this is a hobby that could be a pro sport....it was becoming a pro sport with major sponsors, good prize money and TV back in the early 90's....then poof it went due to what I said in my earlier post...ungrateful racers.

If you let the racers control boat racing it will never go any further than just an expensive hobby.

Enjoy an be safe!

Until someone steps up and offers a big purse it is what it is. Currently the racers have the biggest investment they should have a say in what happens.

Every time rules get changed the racers equipment depreciates.

Talking about skiing? We used to have slalom ski dog fights. Anything goes, two skiers behind one boat knock the other guy down.:sifone:

No not skiing.....Hot Dogs I will get more pleasure out of setting up a hot dog business than I will with all of this and will probably make more money!!!!!

So let me practice......

Get your hot dogs, get your hot dogs 1 for $3 and 2 for $5 get your hot dogs get em here....

Lets go to the judges score cards???? That would be all of you guys BTW!!!!!!!!!!

all i know is the old apba and oss has never screwed us out of money

There are allot of ways to be shorted when it comes to money. I remember you getting a good bit of recognition on TV, you lost that. What it's worth only you can say.
What you can be sure of is if your the type to get a sponsor a real deal will be less $ than it was on 2003.

TV wont make the racing better. The racing has to get better and maybe TV will help with sponsors.

Does any one know what percentage of the people in the US have boats? And what fraction of them are HP boats? Small number. Do the people that have never been in a boat really care? I think not.

It is supposed to be a competition. That is the key not TV. IMO

I think many do care.

I go out and there are many kids on the seawall who will never own a big offshore boat. Doesn't mean they don't dream about it just like we did as kids. When they're out fishing with Dad and you go by they still :drool5:. You don't think they'd love to watch a competitive offshore race on TV? I do.

My (in my mind:)) proof. More kids play soccer now than football. Football has much higher ratings on TV than soccer. Why? A more exciting show and better to dream about becoming.

I'm not an expert at all. But someone we know has the paid gate numbers for Key West every year and the TV ratings for when offshore was on TV, time slots and events. If those get reviewed and compared to other motor sports at the time vs now, answers will start to emerge as to what may be accomplished. (I think).

Wasn't the estimated crowd at the Derby to watch Marc and Scotty do the demonstration on the river over 700,000?
