Hey StripPoker388-

That is acctually a good question.. We choose to use the 8 bolts in order to ensure a proper water seal! Having the bolts on the sides also frees up the area of the spin-on tops center stud. This allows for a proper flow and a visable viewing glass!

Our studs also hold the strainer can to the mouting bracket (stringer, transom, and floor mount). This allows you the freedom to rotate the strainer to your application and makes cleaning a breeze!

better to catch something in the strainers than in the engines....... always better to have strainers.....

Mr. Stetz is correct! It is better to collect any of the Debris in the Strainers than ruin a Sea-pump or even an Engine! It is also a good way to check on your water flow. You may think that you never collect debris, but your strainer will not lie or let you down!

My strainer has allen head bolts to remove the "glass" and it's a real pain in the butt to remove them to clean the strainer when your out on the water. Are wing nut replacement bolts available or do I need to purchase an entire strainer?

You can swap your allen bolts out for the "Wing Nuts" on your current application for just a couple bucks.. We make it an option because some people like the Allens, or some People like the Wing Nuts better (personal prefference). Give our parts dept. a call and we will get you set up!!
