Supercharging an Ilmor

i keep asking ilmor dude why not strap a big blower on top 16-71 should push 1200hp there must be a weak link as i have not seen a big blower on one yet

I spoke with the Ilmor guys about this in Miami. The new block is good to about 900 hp, and the new intake manifold splits horizontally, so it would easy to package a blower. Sufficient demand could drive them to do something, but pending emission requirements are going to make it tough to create any really big power in the coming years.

So you know what that means people! Start demanding the damn thing!

Ilmor upgrades

This engine has had 1500 HP in turbo apps for autos. Actually the only car quicker to 200MPH than the million dollar Veyron was a turbo viper.

Marine duty needs to see that pulled back, but there are always block mods that can be done ie. side bolting etc.

It should be very interesting to see what boostpower is going to do.
They have announced they will be refocusing on Ilmor upgrades in the future and they make some seriously stout power.

One of the benefits of the Ilmor 725 over the Merc 700 is the fuel burn. The Ilmor burns like 30 gallons less fuel at WOT due to lack of a supercharger. Now I realize that in the HP races the fuel burn isn't even a concern but in real world use/poker runs it can make the difference between needing to stop for fuel or not. The Ilmor is lighter too!

Not on a marine application but I installed a Paxton on my SRT10 truck back in 2004. Runs great and I've never had a problem ....

You know how many hp's you puttin down with the blower? We put a 710 in one for chrysler for a demo truck. Short bed reg cab. It was a monster!
