Sterndrive Engineering Inc (SEI)

I know of a few that have used their Alpha replacement with great results. It was my understanding that they have a fault free warranty for a certain time period- - they will replace the unit without question even if its damaged due to impact and running out of oil ect.

3 years, and they say all their drives are new, not re-manufactured.

"The three year fault-free warranty covers any damage to the drive that requires it to be repaired or replaced including failures resulting from lack of oil, fishing line, impact, neglect, and other abuse."

Parts made in China I belive, assembled here. But so what? At the price and the warranty, you could buy 2. If one fails, put the spare on ,send the other one back for free warranty rebuild.Still money ahead. We have installed a few, never a failure. A buddy has one on his old marina workboat, runs nearly all day, nearly everyday.

Ran 400 hp 383 with the se116 gen 2 alpha for years sold the boat to a friend and is still running it you must add a drive shower.

When I was at the Mercruiser School in PA they had about 20 of them sitting on racks. Not sure what they were doing with them. I've used them with good results. It just sucks they came in and took the rebuilding away from us, I used to get more money to rebuild an alpha lower than they sell an entire new outdrive for.

ditto - For what it cost to build an Alpha you can buy a "disposable" one .... my partner in crime bought one for his old Checkmate and we've never had an issue - changed the oil and ran the hell out of it.

Got one on my outboard, only had it about 3 months, but figure a single 250EFI Merc pushing a 24 foot Pantera 60MPH, and I run it HARD, and no problems yet. Merc wanted 3 times the $$$ with 1/3 the warranty. I couldnt see where I could go wrong

They are close to us I think I have an account. My friend with a marina (Robbie's partner) has used them for Alpha outboards etc. They seem more than adequate.

Thanks guys. Sounds like most of you have had positive results. I'll keep 'em in the rolodex for when the inevitable happens. For the price and warranty, how can you go wrong?

:)

The 2 marinas at my lake and a local boat dealer all install them. None have ever had a return on them. I inquired about them in the fall while considering replace both my Alphas do to corrosion and short life left on them. I've never heard 1 thing negative about them. Can't beat the price or warranty. I have been told the housings are actually stronger the Mercs. Don't know if true or not.
