some good points

The bad part for Reddog..he or I would probably get in more trouble for NOT trying to save the guys life after shooting him, than actually shooting him...

Theres two parts here.

Firstly the odds of the confrontation that included a gun is small, but the next part is even smaller, anyone on here actually shooting someone.

One study showed that a gun was involved in stopping a crime over 1,000,000 times a year. And it is because the idea that someone is armed will usually stop a criminal from proceeding with his intent. I have no doubt that if I or my wife alerted a criminal in our home that we were armed and he/she continued in a threatening manner, either of us would pull the trigger. When I used to travel I knew that my wife would do what it took to protect our kids, and she is a good shot.

Once someone is in your house though, doesn't matter how slim the odds were, he's there.

So my question still stands, what is the plan for a family that has no guns? Hope for compassion from the person who broke in to your home?

I will hope that my alerting them I'm here and armed will get them out quick. If they continue on with intent to harm me, I am most definitely defending myself.

I'm not sure as I said have not been there. He said where he & his wife R that they have 4 cop cars 24 hours aday( if I understood him correctly) dedicated 2 this smaller neighborhood?????????? Just looked his address up & it is Merlin St, Houston!!

no idea where that is but if they have dedicated cops it should be nice.

Agreed! I would not hesitate to pull the trigger to protect my family.

When somebody is in your house that shouldn't be he's there for no good. If he/she was a threat to a family member you would have NO problem pulling the trigger.
I do believe that if you have a gun you should know how to use and safeguard it.
If somebody is in my house they will be carried out.

catastrophe, I will say you make some good points and for an anti gunner you are very respecful.Thank you. But I dont doubt that any one here would not hesitate, in the very small chance of a home invation, to use lethal force buy any means to protect themselves if they had to. either using a gun, bat, knife or what ever. but a gun is and will always be my first choice.

ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH
01/25/2010

UPDATED, 2:05 p.m. Monday

ST. LOUIS — A homeowner shot and killed a burglar who broke into his house in the 1900 block of College Avenue about 3:45 a.m. Monday, St. Louis police said.

A 45-year-old man who allegedly broke into the home was killed when the homeowner shot him in the chest. Two women who also broke into the home then ran from the scene.

Police said they do not expect charges to be filed against the 64-year-old man who owns the home and shot the suspect. Missouri’s "castle doctrine" allows property owners who encounter an intruder in their home to use deadly force to protect themselves.
