small blocks deep drives 28 cigarette

So I have an 85 28 ciggie with TRS drives, mild small blocks. 355 ci. stock heads, mild marine cams, 750 holleys, Stainless marine exhaust with 4 inch through hull tailpipes dry until the tip, crossovers, no thermostats, and thunderbolt 4 ignition. I'm thinking of doing bigger Comp Cams that make good power up to 6000 rpm's and decent aluminum heads and all the appropriet valve train components. Question is: Would the boat greatly benefit or would I be throwing a ton of money at only a few more mph? Would my money be better spent converting to bravos?

The Bravo conversion soulns like as great idea. You'll lose a ton of weight, gain some space in the engine compartment and get a much more advantageous X dimension. Plus you'll pick up some gains due to less parasitic loss. No downside. Plus you can then really see gains when you start working on the engines.

Bravo conversion sounds good.

Theres a guy in Cleveland who has built 3 28 Cigs, all with 500ish hp. sbcs. Two have been TRS boats and one was a Bravo. The Bravo boat was running close to 90 and the TRS, in the low 80's. The CG is way diffferent (obviously) causing the boat to ride much more level which I dont think he particularly cared for. Even after shedding a ton of weight on my last re rig the attitude of the boat is totally different. One good thing about a Bravo conversion on theese boats is that by ditching the tranny and tailstock you can actually change a water pump without having to strip both engines.

Rik, more details man!

Those Arnesons look sweet on the back of that 28'!

Are there any Cig 28's out there with Bravo conversions done already? Only thing I'd check into is the difference in center of gravity and balance of the boat.

Tony just responded to what my question was... lol

That is a 28' Cigarette :D

The CG does not change from a Bravo boat the the Arneson boat. The CG does change to the good from a TRS to Arnesons as the engines will mount aft in the boat as they do with a Bravo install.

This boat was originally a TRS boat that had a TRS to Bravo conversion and then the owner (Bret Jones) converted the boat to Arnesons.

Boat has been over 100 but he had some supercharger issues and decided to scrap the Vortec's instead of having to purchase new ones.

Tony, did you ever get your boat dialed in? I removed my recirculating pumps and installed crossovers and that helps a little with the water pump changing but you still might as well be doing it blindfolded.

Thanks for the info guys. Maybe I'll start accumulating all the parts and do the motors AND drives next winter. Prime florida boating season is way to close to do the drives. If I win the lotto tonight I'm definately doing the Arnesons.
