Skater Outboard Fun Run Weekend 2022

Serious News

What's Happening
This past weekend was the scheduled Skater Outboard Fun Run. Unfortunately, the main run scheduled for Saturday ran into some problems with Mother Nature. The forecast for Saturday went like this:

Manatee County is under a series of weather warnings through the weekend. Heavy storms will continue moving across the region through Saturday, and then the cold will arrive in the evening and overnight. Storms could produce strong winds, isolated tornadoes, hail, heavy rain and frequent lightning.

Mariners and those near the water should be cautious of gale-force winds over the Gulf of Mexico. If you’re out on a boat, the conditions could be hazardous through Sunday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service. And if you’re swimming, take note: High surf and rip current advisories are also in effect through the weekend.

So, with that in mind, the main run was moved from Saturday to Friday. The weather Friday was supposed to be nice, with the Gulf supposed to be only 1 to 2's most of the day.

Pete Boden was shooting from a helicopter starting around 10:15 or so, so the boats left the Hyatt in Sarasota and headed out into the gulf for some fun. But, as fate would have it, the 1 to 2's materialized as 3 to 4's. As Sam stated, it was "Sporty".

The run up the gulf took a bot longer than planned due to the conditions, but Pete should have some good shots to share.

Then the boats came into the Manatee River for lunch at the Riviera Dunes Dockside in Palmetto.
