Skater Fuel Tanks

I would have a problem with putting aluminum tanks in. It might be just me, but if Peter built the boats with the tanks as part of the structure, why would you do something different?

I'm not questioning the ability of anybody on here that does the work, just the aluminum. I had mine done with about 50 other things at Skater, as usual, everything came out better than I expected.

Doing the tanks is a TON of work! I think what Peter charges is a steal!

If I ever have to do mine on DOI I'm putting bladders in.

glh , i have put in more then one set of bladders from ATL in dfferent boats and the last being a 37 Talon and when your ready to make the move might i suggest calling ATL asking them if they have ever done any field testing on there fuel bladders for longevity and most likely they will tell you the same thing they told me ( NO ) . I have to say that i really liked using there flexible fuel cell bladders because of the weight, fully baffled and collapsible , but needles to say that after nine years that set failed and were replaced with another set of bladders by ATL .:bump:

How long did they last?

This is not something I will do unless non-ethanol mixed fuel becomes unavailable. Even if the independent dealers get legislated to go with ethanol we still have the airport. Ans at any case we will open an account with the airport fuel supplier and get a 600 or 700 gallon tank for the shop and load it up to fuel the beast.

GLH,like i said in my last post the first set of bladders lasted in and around 9 years and were replaced with another set 2 years ago . GLH if you stop and think about it , that really is not that bad considering the average life span of Aluminum tanks are 10 years or more according to reports done by the ABYC & the USCG and with that in mind maybe you should think twice & just have the tanks redone the same way Skater does them using the same materials and never have to worry about it again . GLH , like i said in a previous post after re doing the tanks with this new process ( materials ) i feel very confident about the repairs that have been done . Just my 2 cents

Presently I am not having any issues with fuel but we are very careful not to put that ethanol crap in there. So we're on hold for now relating to tanks.

There is that little issue of Coast Guard compliance that should come into play also. Depending on when your boat was made you may want to read your insurance policy and the regulations at the time of production.

No reason for any reading BIG Daddy my tanks are just Fine ,and very few out there with any problems ..most of the ones being done at SKATER are a precautionary measure and Peter is biting the bullet doing them for his cost  thats just the kinda guy Peter is & SKATER customer service is top notch :seeya:

Our Jag had bladders when we bought it. The foam was decomposed and the new (never used) backup set was ditto. I called the bladder company and they said to replace them every three years.

We used IMCO to custom build new tanks.

Bladders suck. Had to replace mine, what a mess. I was also told by ATL to change them after 3 years. I replaced them with custom Aluminum fuel cells

When your baldders go bad, and they all do. Usually alot sooner than 9 yrs. You can have plastic tanks put in. Not that big of a job with the motors out, and then you don't have to worry about them again.:cheers2:

I guess that will be the way then if those bladder's lifespan is so short. For now however there is no issue so...

Currently my tank is 16" behind the rear bulkhead of the cockpit under the air scoop in the middle of the boat. Where are the tanks on a standard 42 or 44 MTI?

Dont have any reason to think otherwise BIG Daddy:huh: , give Chris @ Skater a call and ask him if its gunna keep you awake at night :D

Steve already knows the answer. Using any part of the structure of the boat for a fuel tank is not Coast Guard approved.

I realized I was on a Skater facked-up fuel tank thread but if it can help the masses like us that are not blessed with,,, with the ecclesiastical wisdom of Skater Nation membership I figured let us all share in the knowledge of your facked-upedness. :sifone:
