Shiner Bock and the benefits of Texas Icehouses

To start I would wager that Shiner Bock ( pre 1994, Coors purchased this year ) is the single greatest beer to come out of Texas, others would argue that Lone Star is but I beg to differ. Lone Star is definitely a Texas tradition and will always be a staple of the a-typical **** kicker but for the discerning cowboy there simply is no substitute for that refreshing taste of a good cold Shiner.

As for the finer points of Texas Icehouses here are my top 5
1. they encourage people to drink locally and thus reduce the risk of people driving drunk since a Texas Icehouse is situated in or around a neighborhood.
2. encourages neighborhood cohesion as people that drink together tend to also be friends.
3. keeps money in the local economy by promoting a local business.
4. a bar that is crawling distance away is always a good thing.
5. did I mention you don't have to drive and that Icehouses are typically open air patio style?

Shiner Bock is perhaps one of the finest tasting beers in all of the free world. It is simply great, but it`s not my favorite.

I wouldn`t let my dog drink Lonestar.

Good man, keep in mind we are discussing texas brewed beer here only. And if you starting talking about foo foo microbrews Im going to tease you same as you did me about my wine thread.

Well, as far as Texas beers, Zeigenboch is very good. I like amber beer.

Let`s not bring up the wine discussion. This is a BEER thread my man. :sifone:

crb's Father-in-law owns one in downtown Houston. I never knew of the concept until I visited them in H-town. We had a blast, and there were only 5 of us in the joint.

You should try Independence brewing Co. they are here in Austin and make some of the best beer I have ever had.
