Many of you may remember the little red boat that could... and did...
It was the Sharkey Bullet 130 called "Shark Wave" and ran the 75 mile NPBA NY Hudson River Poker Run 2 years in a row 2001 & 2002.
It also was my 1st entry to run with the NJPPC's Poker Run where I ran the outside course with the big boats. It was a day many NJPPC members will never forget nor will I.
This boat is quite special in many ways. I think back of how many friends I have met by just having it out there doing what it does best.
That was what made it so tough when the day came that I had to sell it and thinking that was it. I would never have another boat like that again.
Well over the past few years she had several owners. Some of which had no idea what they had and what the boat was made out of. Except one of the owners that had bought it in the last few years knew what it was. That person was our very own SO member, Stecz !
Stecz picked it up and held onto to it for awhile, but with having a new baby in the house it did not leave much time for him to use it.
I kept my ears open for the "right buyer" to come along to buy it from Stecz.
It took some time but it happened. Last year I was contacted by a gentleman that had worked for Don Arronow. He had done some research on me and the boat and was desparately seeking my approval to put those boats back into production. He even offered me the 1st boat out of the molds. So I set him up with buying my last boat I built which was the Shark Wave and Dave organized his deal with him. Everything just fell into place.
Almost a year has gone by and the boats are back into production with a different deck design that he chose to update the boat a bit.
He was ready to build me a boat but made it very clear that he was only makng the boats to handle a maximum capacity of 25 HP. On that note I told him my preference would be to get my original boat back instead of a new boat. Being as I had a lot of history with the boat and it was the last one I personally hand built.
I also cannot leave out the fact that this was the 1st boat my oldest daughter was out in when she was just 2 years old while my wife was in the hospital recovering after having our 2nd daughter. I had to do it then because my wife said there was no way she was going to allow me to take her out in the boat...
Well this past weekend my oldest daughter came with me for the 1200 mile round trip to pick up the boat. She's looking forward to another ride in that boat !
It's strange how things can work out some times...
It will be awhile before I can get it all re-rigged plus I have to find the right engine for it.
I'm just glad it's back and look forward to messing with it again !
