Scuff Mark

Need to find out what the process is for getting a couple relatively small scuff marks out of my gel coat. These are marks that were not totally sanded out when the boat was built late last year. I would normally take the boat back and have them do it, but I'm 650 miles away. They are small and I figure I could probably do it. Do I just take varying grades of sandpaper and end up at 2500 for a final shine?

Thanks in advance!

Gel coat isn't paint. It's more forgiving in certain ways and less in others. And gel coat isn't all the same. I would at least talk to the builder and see what he uses- then I'd have someone that knows what they're doing do the repair.

Thanks Chris... I'm going to send an e-mail to their tech guy and see what he comes back with. Sometimes the obvious is just beyond our nose... thanks man!

Should be able to use some 1500 grit and then buff it out with compound. Of course its hard to say without seeing it.

I ended up wet sanding w/varying grit paper ending at 1500... Then buffed w/compound... Turned out EXCELLENT. Could have saved some elbow grease if I had some 2500 or so grit... but none the less it turned like new. Thanks to all.
