Rare 24' Cig Twin just sold on Ebay, $3700

in 1972, I ran the Hennesy Grand Prix out of Point Pleasant New Jersey - a 24 Cigarette with twin small block v-8s was faster than I was, however on the run south from Brooklyn NY to Point Pleasant, when the seas started to build, it was then that my 28 ft. Bertram Baron had the advantage - and we won the Production class. The 24 Cigarette was quick, but the Bertrams length was its advantage in rough water !

How are are you feeling Phil?

Hi Phil----I know this is an old thread-----What color was the 24' Cigarette you ran against in 1972. I was told my 72 24' Cig ran that race in production class
Bob Frystock---formerly from Mantoloking

Hello Paul !

The 24 Cigarette we raced against was from Mass. I think - it was black with Teak inlay on the Front deck, and engine hatches - it had a pair of v-8 small blocks - think 188 hp each. For sure it was faster than my boat,
but when the south east winds picked up in the early afternoon, that is when length as more important than HP. The Cigarette was airborne a lot, we had trim tabs, so we could hold the boat down. My boat had a pair
of 290 HP each - Holman and Moody Fords- running Volvo outdrives, however we did have nibral props too which helped. Dante Tagnoli ( from Dante's Inferno - a 36 ft. Cigarette in Open class) told me to Bunji cord the
drives so they would not kick out and eventually do damage - we did so and it worked out well.

I dont have plans to go to Tavares in March - sorry !

I'll let you know if I can get down there and maybe you'll change your mind. Charlie McCarthy is going he said. Not sure about Bobby yet......

Mine is a 72 with twin 165 Mercruisers. It spent most of it's life in the Barnegat Bay. Docked in Mantoloking until 1984 then in Brick on the Metedeconk River.IMAG0004.jpg
