Raffle for a 38 Cig Top Gun TS?

Was talking with some friends at the bar last nite and someone came up with the idea of raffling off my Top Gun:

It sounds like a good idea, and thus I am kicking around the idea.
So this morning I am seeing if there is interest and gathering ideas.

If it gathers enough interest, I can go a few ways:
Offer good odds:
225 tickets @ $800 ea OR 180 tickets @ $1000 ea

or offer lower ticket price:
450 tickets @ $450 ea OR 600 tickets @ $300 ea

or go for super odds and a drawing by Christmas (if enough tickets are sold) at a much higher ticket price:
75 tickets @ $ 2400 ea

I could have all entries sent to my attorney and have him do the drawing once we reach the level needed. I would also video tape the drawing in case anyone wanted to see it.

So is there interest? If so, what price / odds level?

Seems like it would be fun to try.

Lots of laws governing these sorts of things. They vary by state. PM Fund Razor for details- it's his biz.

I find that people don't really want to hear about the details.

Raffles are regulated games of chance. As opposed to auctions, which are classified as sales.

Let me just say that if individuals could legally raffle stuff off... you would see much more of it. In fact, you would see a raffle website like ebay. (RBay?) And it would be populated by gamblers.
But.... in most cases and states, only 501 c 3 non-profits can obtain a raffle license from the state. Those licenses detail the who, what, where, and when.

Sold 160 at last check I believe...

"All the docs will be signed over to the winner either at the drawing or time of pick up. If the minimum of 400 raffles are not sold by Thanksgiving Day 2008... all monies will be paid back to the ticket holders as refunds."

I would assume that a bunch of stale-dated checks are on their way back to the ticket holders.

NICE TYPO ....... :ack2: MM

We are in the midst of this raffle.......there is a lot of up front homework to do with your states gaming board for starters. Also be prepared for a whole lots of emails and phone calls with every question under the sun. WAY more than we had anticipated. Its a fun concept until the nuts and bolts of the raffle are in your lap to manage. Good Luck and do your research first.

This is the post of experience talking.
It is good advice, too.
