Texas man dies in boat racing accident

10:07 AM CDT on Monday, June 22, 2009

Associated Press

CREVE COEUR, Mo. -- A Texas man has died after losing control of his drag boat while racing on a St. Louis-area lake.

Organizers of the Budweiser Creve Coeur Lake Drag Boat Classic say Jim Tucker was driving at about 140 mph in a qualifying round of the event Saturday when his boat lurched violently and crashed.

Fred Welshans, president of the St. Louis Drag Boat Association, told The St. Louis Post-Dispatch that Tucker was an experienced boat racer and it appeared to have been a tragic accident.

Organizers said it was the first death in the event’s 30-year history.

Sorry to hear that.:(

RIP, ours prayers and condolences to all those missing him at this time.

Always sorry to hear this.

I've been in a really fast drag boat, and I have never had any desire to do it again.

Those guys truly have no fear. Rest In Peace.

Very sorry to hear that.
Back in the early 80's I worked that race as a patrol boat and towed the boats back to the launch ramp. After seeing too many bad accidents I couldn't do it any more.
Just a sad reminder of how dangerous that sport can be.

As a old drag boat racer I hate to hear this (RIP) The comment about the first death in their 30 year history is wrong, we lost a racer from Tulsa their in either 84 or 85 I was there, he raced one of the Ofixco boats.Didnt mean to take the orginal meaning out of this thread. my thoughts and prayers are with his family.
