prop damage - 454/33 - Alpha

A gust of wind and some unseen rocks resulted in the following. (see pics) I was just idling at the time and the wind caused me to drift over into trouble. Restarted and got boat to the ramp - was greeted by this once I got her on the trailer.

Didn't notice anything at low (no wake) speeds - but was wondering at what rpm/speed I'd get vibration, or anything else.

Prop is a Quicksilver Mirage 13.75 19/pitch on an Alpha drive - 1987 454 mag /330 hp. Is that even the best prop for this boat? Prior to this, performance seemed OK...

Can this be repaired? Or should I just get a new (or different) prop?

A Mirage Plus is a good prop. That looks repairable. If you can find a Laser II, I would try that for comparisons sake. Depending on the hull, that might work out better for you. The Laser II tends to carry the bow more.

The Laser II may not have enough blade area for that big a boat. Mirage Plus is probably your best bet with that heavy of a boat with the drive mounted deep from the factory.

I don't think the laser would work very well for ya. Mirage or mirage plus is probably your best bet. What kinda RPM's you running and what gear ratio?

The propeller may be repairable. If it is an old style Mirage age is against the propeller. If it is a Mirage Plus then repairing should not be a problem. As far as the Laser II is concerned they are reserved for small boats less than about 20-21' in length.

Not sure about the gear ratio - package is stock w/about 450 hrs. RPMs - about 4100 is as high as I have taken it, so far. But there is more there.

Send it to BBlades, they can make it better than New.
And if it is an orig Mirage, not Plus they can tweak it for a little more!
Call them up!

Thanks - it's a Formula 242 LS - heavy but very stable....

There's a combination you don't see alive in most people's hands......

I changed my drive in the Empress to a Bravo when I switched from the small block to a big block.....

DId you have Triple Digits work on the drive???? (Just Kidding:sifone:)

Friend had twin small blocks with Alphas in his 242.....
