Powerflow Exhaust install problems...Power steering lines in the way...

I just got a set of Powerflow exhausts and the pressure/return line fittings on the back of the power steering pump will not clear. I went to the Imco site and did not see a solution.

What do I need to do to make it work? Is there another power steering bracket that I need to get? Engine is a 1987 420 Mercruiser, all original power steering/alternator brackets.

If you move the PS pump to the fully adjusted side will everything clear?

The pump will move over a couple inches when you go to put the belt on.

May have to get a shorter belt if yours is streached, or the wrong belt now.

I remember on my last bolt my GILS pretty much touched my PS pump as well when I installed them

It will not adjust at all. It just barely had clearance enough for me to stick it on fo the picture. In the second picture the return line tube is hitting the water inlet on front of the manifold. The pressure line is almost directly in front of the water inlet. If the inlet on the manifold was removed it would have clearance for the return line but the pressure line will most likely still hit. I kinda hate to band saw off the front water inlet and weld it shut, but that would give some clearance.

That bung is messing you up,,,,, hopefully someone with powerflows will chime in,,,,, you cant be the first !!!

If the bung was band sawed off and welded closed, and I made a 1/4 inch spacer to go behind every bracket bolt and made a 1/4 inch spacer for the water pump and drive pulleys, that would move everything out 1/4 inch and I think that would be enough.

Surely there is a better way than all of that. Anyone?

I bet someone makes a relocation bracket. If not how about a tankless steering pump,with a remote oil tank,something like the merc 496

I'd check the offset of the power steering pulley and have a custom billet one modified if nothing else works and just space the pump out 1/2 inch or so.

Some of the later pulleys must have different offsets that may work? Anyone????

Another option is an aftermarket bracket as said. You could have it cut and rewelded for any location you wanted because billet welds well. The stock cast one I'm not so sure I'd cut and weld it to move the pump a little higher.

The offset power steering pully is a great idea. Unfortunately there is only 1/4 inch between the existing pully and the closest point on the pump. Diameter would have to change a lot to clear it. Then it would change the speed of the pump.

Looks like you have room to shift the pump up and outboard a little, how about taking a metal plate and step off the origional bracket then use spacers made from the same plate to bring the pulley allignment back in place

I am running the same powerflow set up on my 468. Here are some pictures. Mine clears by a lot. Looks like we have different brakets.?

You have one of those motors that just doesn't line up, Merc has a few of them. Either give us or IMCO a call and you will need a (IMCO 04-9355). This bracket will kick the P/S pump and alternator off to the side so you can clear your Exhaust system and not hit the P/S return fitting.
