I've also thought about picking up a Wellcraft for experimentation. They did a few things with the boat that I liked, also, design-wise. How was the build quality of yours? Do you think any old one (say, '77 or earlier) will almost certainly need stringer/transom work if it hasn't had it already?
.

I had a '79 for 10 years. I replaced the transom and the stringers in the engine compartment. The rest were gone by the time I got rid of it. The woven roving covering the stringers and transom was so coarse that there were pin holes in the fabric. It had to start soaking up water from the first moment it was rolled outside and it rained. The transom was not laid or sprayed in place. It had an inner mold glassed in and there where large voids between it and the wood core of the transom. It had to have been holding a lot of water. After cutting the inner fiberglass away, the majority of the transom came out in handfulls like mulch.

My 1979 Pantera . . . 496ci stroker - 454 tall deck bored .060 over, Team G high rise intake, Comp Roller Cam, SRP pistons, Aluminum Heads, H-beam rods, Holley 850, MSD ignition, Gil Dry Exhaust, Bravo 1 outrive w/nosecone,
27P Quicksilver Mirage, Dana 1000 trim tabs, Full hydraulic steering to the wheel.

Fun boat for Lake Norman!!!

My '85 10 Meter. Pretty close to original except the 502's on her original Myco.

30 years old this year

Here's my 1982 Chris Craft Stinger 260. For its 30th birthday I pulled out the twin 350's and replaced them with a single BBC 502. Made the cuddy more usable (pulled the fridge, sink and water tank out) and some of the cockpit was also revamped...

It sure looks good....

I think I'lll drop off my 1983 39' for you to work on.....:sifone:

Here is my 1974 24' Donzi Doral that I just finished restoring. It's had a long hard life from most likley the Donzi cover boat, to race boat and back to pleasure boat that was left in a field. I did not break the bank restoring her just making it nice & usable. It even has it's original interior.

Outstanding. Any idea how many of those are still around? I cannot recall ever seeing another one with that setup....
