I know this is not the correct forum, but I need a quick answer, so please give me a little while to get help. I have Vista and so does my Dad, I need to figure out how to take control of his desktop while he can sit and view what I am doing. 80 and almost deaf is not a good combination to be just starting to learn to use a computer:(

www.gotomypc.com is supposed to be great and free or if you need dial up connection, pc anywhere is also very good. I am assuming your dad is another town or something so not on the same broadband network

he is in NY and I am in MI, There is a way to do this with what is already installed with Microsoft, only I don't know where to find it.

Remote Desktop can do it but it can be tricky depending on going between broadband networks. Also RDP (Remote Desktop) has to be configured and enabled on both PC's for it to work as well.

I would try to walk him through loading go to my pc.

I'm not familiar w Vista, but older versions of Windows have a feature called Netmeeting built in (gotomyPC does NOT want you to know this). Does the same thing.

I second the "go2mypc" it's really simple to use once you've installed it on both computers...I use it all the time and while it's a little slower than being there it works pretty good...

GoToMyPc.com is only free for the first 30 days. after that, it is $19.95 per month. it works well though. I use it to access my office computer from my lap top when im traveling. keep in mind, the host computer must be set so it allows access at all times.
