Phragle's official winter upgrade thread..

Hey phragle, was over where my Avanti is stored yesterday, thinking of selling it and it's tow vehicle maybe next year. Anyway, the bottom work I referred to in an earlier post was not done on this boat, was a friend's Velocity. Sorry, too long ago for me to remember correctly I guess. The bottom on my 1988 22' Avanti is not an inch think (guessing here). The bottom didn't flex when standing in bilge when the engine was out. I checked with the guys who helped with the drive coupler change to make sure I am correct this time.

Thanks razor, I am usually not a fan of yellow but somehow I have two yellow boats and like them both; kind of odd when I think about it.:cheers2:

He's gonna need a bigger prop too with all the improvements he's making over the winter.

So after talking to lot of people, and deep thought, this is what I have come up with... (loose fitting on tabs and steering nothing is tightened down yet)

Steering made a huge difference, so did the tabs.... odd thing is with tabs fully retracted, it planed and rode flat side to side..its always had some lean before.

Also I remember SfOcen saying he liked Mch Sterndrivers, just picked up a clean 24 p 4 blader off ebay to try.

Makes one wonder if the old steering was the root cause of the lean?

Also wonder if one of the lencos was dragging.....

blew up the explorer today....if its not one thing its another this year...

My trucks blown up, my furnace blew up, the roof blew off, the motorhome crapped out in traffic on the way to bt....

Tried the labbed Mach stern drive today. Lost about 450-500 rpm but boat still runs same speed. Also with tabs all the way up it has zero lean which is bye improv t. I fact I never touched the tabs. Boat dos ride really flat though. Trim the drive to the moon and it porpoises a little but the bow doesn't really come up feels like the whole boat does

Been a little while since we had an update... Since the boat liked that prop, but didnt have enough motor to pull it all the way thru..

The next logical idea would not be to get a smaller pitch prop, but rather, build a bigger motor.

So finally finishing up the 625sc...... except now I might need a bigger prop.

fresh 454 mag bottom end, JE blower pistons, 731 cam, walmart roller lifters, Big Al ported alum heads with big inconel valves, Bill Mitchel Dominator etc......
