Pet just died.......

I know some of you are dog people but you'll just have to listen to a cat story. I got married 17 years ago and we got 2 kittens from the pound just weeks later. My kids are 13,11,and 8 and those cats have been here their whole lives. One of the cats would make a dog lover convert, he comes when you call him by name, understands basic verbal commands like out, come, and even "go find Trey" (our oldest who he finds to sleep with every night). Well, an hour ago I'm putting crap together for Christmas AM gifts and he comes up to me, sniffs my nose and goes into the bathroom for a drink of water.......

30 seconds later flip-flops like his legs are going 4 different directions and in 60 seconds has died........Christmas is in 2 days, my wife is in pieces. Don't think it has sunk in with the kids yet. Keep them in your prayers......this sucks!!!!

Sorry for your loss.

we have cats, and a dog. One cat is very unique and I would hate to lose her.

If I did I'd be out looking for a new kitten.

Hey Russ, so sorry to hear about your cat. Marsha's cat is 16 and a huge part of the family. Give Faith a big hug and tell her we are thinking about her. Talk to you soon. Take care.

I just told Marsha, she left the room crying. My guess is she's looking for Andy (her cat). :(

Wow, I'm sorry for your loss. With Christmas right around the corner, that just makes it all the harder for you and your family.

:(Very sad for your loss......last Aug 10th we let our little Smokey out at dark like we have for the last 10 yrs....he never came back.....kept track of the pounds and the H Society websites, put up signs around the nieghbourhood....nothing....we think the coyote's got him.....hope it was quick

So sorry,Russ.Just remember that he had a great life for 17 years, and he gave your family 17 years of joy. That is worth a lot. Remember all the good times. Our pets are our friends and our family, and we are better folks because of them. Y'all are in our thoughts.Robert and Karen

Thanks guys......he's been slowing down the last year or 2 but still got around fine, occasionally playful, and has always been very affectionate. Tonight he ate some leftovers, came upstairs to say "hi" and then died a minute later. Really went the best way possible, decent health up until what I assume was a massive stroke or heart attack. He didn't make it 2 feet or 30 seconds from when he first acted weird, hope I go the same way....a long time from now!!!!

We'll be burying him out back tomorrow......on Christmas eve :(

Russ, very sorry to hear of your loss.
I lost my first dog 3 years ago, and still, not a day goes by... Hell, I still have his picture as the background on my phone.

I've never been a cat person, but I still love all "critters". Since we moved out here, we've had a orange tabby-cat that wanders into the yard a few times week - sometimes just peeking in the windows. A few weeks ago, leaving for work, and turning out of the neighborhood, I saw an orange tabby dead in the road. My heart sank. That evening it was gone on the way home, but my wife had also seen it on the way out in the morning, and she was also really upset.
About a week and a half later, I get a call from my wife while I'm at work just to tell me that "our" cat is OK and was out in the yard. I've seen him a few times since, and trying to get him to hang around a bit more. I'm relieved that it wasn't him.

Sorry for the loss of you and your family, and it certainly dampens the spirits, probably even more so for you than the kids, but I'm sure they are taking it rough too. As you said, at least he went the best way I guess you can go, but it sure hurts to lose such a good longtime friend.
I don't think you mentioned his name?
Very sorry.

Losing a long time pet is hard. Just remember the happiness you brought into his life for so long. You will always remember Christmas as his day also.

Peace is with him now.

Sorry to hear this, brother. 17 years is getting up there for a cat, so think of all the enjoyment he brought into your life. This would be a perfect time to visit the shelter and put a four-legged present under the tree.

I thought about this thread last night- I've always had cats, and my little nutsack sleeps in the bed with me every night. Last night he rolled over on his back with legs pointing in every direction and started SNORING. First time I'd ever heard a cat snore- cracked me up and made me think of all the silly things our pets do that make them so lovable.
