Our dog Ellie Mae

Sweet 3 year old lab mix, today a worker from next door leaving a job,ran over her back leg in his truck. Fortunately, I had just gotten home. Her back leg was destroyed. I rushed her the 15 miles to the vet,it was worse than I thought. He said he would have to amputate the entire leg and part of her hip, but with a little luck, she would pull thru. He just called me,surgery went well, hopefully she can come home Monday. This girl was the most street smart of my 3 dogs, never thought it would happen to her,and we live on a dead end street in the middle of nowhere. Next week I will have my entire yard fenced in,I hate to do it,but I cannot take any more chances. Please keep Ellie Mae in your thoughts, and don't let your buddies run loose like I always have. Freedom for our dogs may not be worth the risks. I blame myself, just thankful she is going to pull thru, could have been much worse.:(

i lost my first mael doberman to the saem thing.. i lost 9 frinds in the towers, than on my b day shorty after the towers fell i lost my best friend... it was hard to handle.. my mom took him for a walk, he broke his collar and ran in the street after a chipmunk....

I had a dog hit by a car lost his front left leg. He went on to live a very happy life, I hope she come thru ok.

Our vet says the loss of the rear leg is not as tough on the dog as a front leg. He says she can still run and play. But I think I will just let her ride in the golf cart with me. We have a bond now, since I destroyed my hip in my wreck 5 years ago,we can limp around together:) For Karen and I,our dogs are our kids, and we are so thankful that Ellie Mae survived, when it could have been much worse. Thanks for your thoughts, and thanks,SOS,for letting us share our thoughts.Robert and Karen

Hope she does well, I do not handle it too well when my dogs have issues, people have no idea sometimes how attached you get to dogs..

Good luck!

Good luck to Ellie Mae- when you told me about this last night I could tell how shaken you were over it. Doubt you noticed but you said "well she's going to be ok" multiple times kind of "wishing her through".

Get well soon!

I'm sorry to hear this. Good luck and glad she is still with us. Dog's can adapt very well to just 3 legs. Dave

Damn... I'm really sorry to hear it.
Sounds like she is on the way to recovery. I hope she heals up quickly.

I was out picking up a few things this morning to make repairs to my fence this afternoon.
Gotta keep the kids safe.

Just talked to the vet,he thinks she is doing well considering the seriousness of the injury.Unless there are unseen complications like a blood clot that he thinks is unlikely, she can come home Monday. He said call Monday morning, but I expect I will just be in the parking lot at 8 AM,just in case:) I told the crew at the shop not to expect me in Monday. Got an old dog bed installed on the back of the golf cart, she can ride instead of run for awhile. My other 2 dogs seem to miss her as much as Karen and I do,they just sniff around outside and around my truck, they never do that.Again, thanks for the thoughts.
