Opinion - fastest single engine V - HP for Hp

Hi Mark.

I rode with Mark in his 28ft twin 250 outboard Tuff 28 and we saw the GPS go over 84mph with 4 guys in the boat (not sure how much fuel). That was also only on a quick 5-10 minute ride without really trying for big speed #'s......

The thing was a rocket and felt stable and hooked up at all speeds.

The fit and finish on the Tuff is amazing and I would recommend it highly.

Not 4 sure but didn't Powerboat do a test a few years ago, on, was it a Howard 28??? w/ some power but it was smoke'n fast!!

Actually the title of ''fastest single engine Vee bottom with unlimited power..." belongs to Gary Taylor and his Howard 28 at 130.3mph.
We need someone who wishes to challenge that with a TUFF 28.

Tuff- Those numbers are great. Says allot about my hull efficency. I need about 300 hp more to run the same speed in a 24' boat.:sifone:

Why dont you get a small fountain and call ILMOR monday and get a smokin' deal on a slightly used 710 or 625?? Only 800 lbs....Tell em you want the SERIOUS discount and the Dude sent ya! :biggrinjester:

To race with a single Desiel engine and I could have any hull combination I would go with the 32' Buzzi like Nemschoff ran back in the day. Drop that lump low in the hull, and run the Buzzi Drive...

RumRunner,

Respect what your saying but it would need to be a production boat and we would run an outdrive. I know Buzzi boats well and his drives inside out. Although they are fast they are not practical for what I want to achieve.

So, I am guessing most bets would be Tuff, Activator or Extreme would be the fastest platforms to start with?

I'm partial, but I have had 2 24' Superboats with ourboards and now have a 27' Activator with twi 200's, going 75. Now, my boat is a 24 degree hull with no notch or pad, whereas some of these other boats have pads and may not perform as well at speed in rough water. So, my question would be "do you want the fastest in rough water or in flat water?". I would go with an Activator, 27 or 32 in rough.

Randy

velocity 26's are pretty quick, but you gotta be right on top of the wheel when ya get going fast. We had a 26 with 550hp (comparable to the merc 525's which make 560hp)... the speedo only went to 80 and it was burried.

I would go with an Activator, 27 or 32 in rough.

Something like this ? :D
