It really was a no win situation , brought on by a weak starter .
If the pace boat moved over to the far inside , there would have been plenty of room for all the boats to line up outside of him , but then he might not have needed to throw the flag. They were all ready to start them self's wayyyyy before the start/finish line . Now that I think about it , I don't remember even seeing a flag . I think the #110 started the race ... Must be all that F-1 experience shining thru ..
Since the pace boat's driver chose to run in the middle outside to get everyone lined up evenly behind him to both his left and right side , the flagman should have pointed the flag at Ryan (as the #1 position ) and motioned him to his inside , instead of just letting the inside guy start outside of him and pinch the rest of the field into the breakers. At some point before going up on the beach , the #5 and then the #110 picked the only thing left to them ..
There was still a good 200 - 300 yards before the starting line for him to get out of the way before throwing the flag . And if they choose to not comply , he should have ran them in a circle till they were ready to have a controlled fair and even start.
Instead , it looked like a Saturday night "bomber" class race a little farther inland at Bithlo Speedway. :biggrinjester:
