Older Race Boats (daddy cool)

HORBA is actively working to put together a couple of events each year so these old boats can run and be competitive too. We are trying to save these old race boats and let them be seen by the people who love this kind of open ocean racing.
Next February, 2010, we are running the Miami to Key West race on the weekend after the Miami Boat Show....it is a 185 mile run. The Daddy Cool and Nordskog's boat and Bounty Hunter...the 39 from last years Key West would do just fine against modern race boats that were made to race 60 or 70 miles in a calm water off a beach.
Next August, 2010, we are running the Around Long Island Marathon in a 2 day event. Two nice events, with plenty of time between to save up your race budget.
The photos below show 35 footers from the old days. The last photo, the white boat sold for less than $10,000 last year. They are out there, just keep looking.
HORBA is no longer involved with the Bimini race held in June, but that is another event that your boat could do very well in if the seas kick up a bit.....last year it was flat calm and the faster boats had a smooth run over and back.

I survey many old and former race boats and most of the time they ARE way overbuilt and in safe condition. Most of the repairs I have examined made the boat stronger in that area than it was initially. The racers of that era wanted solid, heavy and strong hulls. They got their speed from the engines. Most of the lightweight "potato chip" hulls are in landfills by now.

There is also the "Dirty Pearl" Boat around, we ran against it, in Tenn. in 2007 the old Snapper Norris' Slap Shot It was a blast runnin against those guys!

There are 3 or 4 Class #4 boats forsale under 40k right now that are competitive and not that old.

Why don´t he get a 28 skater..that one can take on even in seas any current 35 footer outthere.. with a pari of 2.5 EFIs or 300Xs it´s a 120mph ride right there.
And a serious asswhooper from the the start to the end.
Plus easy to operate and handle by yourself even.

We had the Dirty Pearl and the Bounty Hunter running together at the St Clair race a few weeks back. Both really cool boats!
