Old Gimbal/Bell housing Alpha, M drive

I have to replace the water inlet hose on a old M drive (alpha)
There are metal pins for the bell housing that hold the bell housing in
Do you need a special puller to get them out?
Also, is there a trick to getting the hose on there w/o removal?

Standard Trim sender/sensors where is a good place to get them?

If I understand your question, the pins are screwed through the gimbal ring and into the bell housing.
They are torqued to 95#' using red Loctite on the threads. There's a special 12 point 1/2" Allen type wrench that is used to install and remove, but any 1/2" (I think) hex tool can be used. They can be very reluctant to removal. Sometimes heat has to be applied to the ears of the bell housing to break them loose.
I don't think you can change the hose w/o bell housing removal, but maybe it's possible.
The trim switches can be bought on eBay for about $75.00 I think.

***IMPORTANT****

Use a real merc hose, the cheap ebay ones etc. WILL kink and or collapse and you will do it all over again. Now would also be a good time to do the bellows (the ebay bellows are junk too) and shift cable. An once of prevention....

You can buy the hinge pin tool from promarineusa.com for $19.57

Use the proper tool . It is loctited in and torqued to 100 ft/lbs. Strip it and your F'd

Replace all the rubber pieces. and trim senders if you desire. It is not possible to replace the hose with out removing the bellhousing. Phragle is right... use the good hose.

I have a complete Merc Kit and didn't think that the hose could be replaced without the Bell removed from the assembly

I know the allen/12pt tool
This assembly has no limit/trim switchs on the side
Just pins with threaded center/core and a small hole beneth
Thoughts?

I replaced the bellows, water hose, gimble bearings on 2 Alpha transom assemblies this spring w/o removing the bell housing before I installed the TA's on my boat. Wasn't real hard, but obviously not as easy if the bell housing is removed. These were on 2 new, never installed transom assemblies, but have sat on a shelf for a few yrs, so didn't want to risk dry rotted bellows. I didn't want to remove the hinge pins and risk any chance of messing up the threads.hat water hose has to be the correct length and in the groove to prevent kinking.
