Okay, how do we beat this?

the testing procedure is virtually impossible to perform.
That is one key right there !!

How would they account for additional noise not coming from the boat? Planes trains and automobiles.

NJ at one point it set up that the testing had to be done at WOT...

That did not go very far due to liabilities....:ack2:

Ted - Any updates on this?

After all the assurances that the Senators we talked to would not vote for it.....Wait for it......It passed 43 to 1.

There were some amendments including making a first offense a warning, which is good. But now it has to go to the House and they are likely to pass it also. Of course with no funding and no standards as to training and operation of the equipment it is an empty law.

Your boat has mufflers so it is very unlikely you would be bothered, and we already have several legal arguments ready if anyone has to go to court on this mess ;)

Why is everyone whispering. nature is a noisy place, waves crashing, wind blowing, thunder crashing, rain pouring, ice cracking, children splashing and screaming,Marching bands - Hey what would a marching band sound like at 88dbs with mufflers!!!:)

We may have to do that in the next step, since this bill just says do it, but not how. The SAE 2005 spec states 60 dB ambient noise or less (almost impossible) with the gun 1 meter up and 1 meter back from the boat at idle. Now of course silent choice would do that, but a lot of muffler systems will not. Also the DNR has no money for equipment or training so this all may be a moot point anyway. BTW, if you have a link to the NJ law I would love to see it, just to compare.

Thanks Dave

Been fighting this in Michigan for a long time. They have also made it almost impossible to use silent choice here by their interpretation of the law, even though it is legal.

Downturns are the best defense currently. Michigan is trying to legalize a Noise Gun similar to a Radar Gun except for noise. They have been working with a professor at Michigan State for a few years now and given him large grants to design and build the gun. It is currently in front of the patent office.
