Oil Question...

My fresh 383 is almost in and ready to fire. I'm sure there is much debate like the old Chevy vs Ford thing. I am just curious on general thoughts on both. I am a huge fan of Mobil One - I use it in everything. My builder says use royal purple. Any suggestions on which to use? What weight do you suggest too?

I love Mobil One too but, I would listen to my builder. At least until the warranty is over.

I wouldn't use Royal Purple if it was free. Either Mobil 1 or AMSOIL.

break it in with Joe Gibbs BR. It is what Rm builder reccomends... then switch to brad penn. after the first couple hours. that is what Bob told me to do. he has very high experience in the marine industry. what he says is gospel.

and on a side note. i used to run valvoline vr-1 oil and it was fine. but at higher oil temps i did see my pressure fall off alot. the brad pen stays the same it is some good stuff.

PENNZOIL! The highest parts per millionths of zinc , moly, phosphorous. We have used it for over 40 years with excellent results. I would use at least 20 W 50 non-synthetic. Also I would suggest for break in use a bottle of the Comp Cams break in lube as well.

The latest Powerboat magazine has an article about big hp engines and talks about oils. Sterling performance doesn't like Mobile 1 for marine big engines. I personaly would not recomend synthetic oil until after break in. I use Amsoil and change it regulary and take and oil sample, and have it analysised, and have had very good results. Don

The brand new 383 that I have yet to fire up, will be broken in on Pennzoil 15W40 semi synthetic for 2 oil changes and then probably on to full synthetic.
