What I was saying that OSO doesnt have the passion to make a site like we now have again in SOS. Sorry for the confusion

Yeah, what made OSO fun, is that the owner was a performance boater like us. The members are what make these sites wirk obviously. A lot of us know each other because of OSO, but OSO isn't the same neighborhood anymore, so we're moving on up.... to the east side!

IB has, and is planning to do, absolutely nothing. It's somewhat depressing really, because they couldn't have a better "platform" that's already been established, LOADED with great info, and a large number of members even after losing some.

Correct...they DON"T CARE. It is a bottom line game with them, they are a corporation and by default they are not interested in anything else but their financial position.

The welcome mat is clean and ready to be trampled on.:):)

Thanks Brandon. :)

I tried like hell with IB. Tried contacting them a dozen times with no reply. I'd have done for them what we did here- for free. That's how much I had invested in OSO. I guess it all worked out in the end but it would have been so much easier to do it where we all were to begin with.

I know what you mean man. As mentioned before, they just do not care. It's just another one of many sites to them. Their "model" is if they lose a couple of sites due to inactivity, they always have others to pick up the slack. They sure paid Steve A LOT of money, to let what they got for it dissolve into obscurity. Way to go Steve though! :sifone:

They are correct about one thing, that the site will run itself without much attention from them. Where they are wrong, is the location of where it will run itself......which is into the ground. :o

I lurked heavily on OSO for the years it was strongest. Was disappointed when the main brood of members split off, but found it easy to straddle both fences. Now, I rarely check OSO except to watch the Jerry Springer AquaMania thread and browse the classifieds.

Many will argue the remaining virtues of OSO being the memories and content built over time. However, I would argue that the memories live in the friends and members over here at SOS. Plus, we can re-create the technical data by someone merely asking the questions again. Of course, the vitriolic threads about bad deals and bad businesses might not migrate. But, unfortunately, there will simply be new bad deals to harp on. (Was it MarginM(sp) that would fax bomb bad companies and post their personal contact info?)

Regardless, we have a good thing going on SOS.

(But Stecz sucks for not letting me be a silent investor.) (And Allan4 is still a putz.)

Who knows, if OSO continues down the path they're on SO might be able to buy the content and move it over here for pennys on the dollar when IB is ready to toss the baby out with the bath water!

I tried like hell with IB.

They say the first step in recovery is admitting you have a problem.... Those guys flat out ignored it and/or were in denial and thought everyone would conform and put up with the new way...

Thank god the rules of engagement of the new corporate america don't translate well into powerboat discussion forums!:26:

No, site is super sloooow when it does work

I have nothing against OSO. I'm fairly new to OSO (and SOS) and don't know that many members on either site. I am a paid member of OSO. I didn't know there WAS a paid membership here. But now I see the "Upgrade Membership" button. Never noticed it...but now that I have...DONE!!

My complaint is that OSO is MUCH slower than just about any other forum/website I visit online. I go daily but rarely stay on very long because it's just too annoying waiting for things to load. It was not like that when I 1st joined a year or so ago.

You don't think they've learned their lesson about our community?

They may feel a bit threatened... since we can have an open conversation mentioning them by name, and any reference to this site over their = instant deletion.... even innocuos ones.. a thread finally showed up over there about Copeland's cat, somebody mentioned piks here and they poofed the reply.... These are boating sites we are all boaters .. wtf........?????

Just an outsider looking in...

I was there from the early days - after Jeffery started it, and before Steve took over. It was great, and many of us have had a lot of really great memories over there.
Also a lot of very memorable conversations.
There is a thread over there in the Bilge that went on for over a week about MY first dog, and I wish I could get it back, now I can't even access it because I don't want to re-up.
A lot of people went through the pain with me, and as they say, misery loves company... But it was comforting that I had friends that knew what was going on in my life, and had a little compassion.
I think this place was built more in the oldschool ideals of OSO.
I also think Steve took too much on himself.
There is a small/large group here that all share those ideals, and shuffle the weight, and at times it's still tough.
My hat's off the team assembled here, and to the coach/recruiter.

How funny. I started reading this reply and thought, "I should mention that I posted a link to the SOS Copeland thread, but the mods poofed it." I didn't realize anyone had seen my post before they cut it.

You mention just one of many differences between their site and ours. SOS is not intimidated by their product, so we don't care if someone posts a link to OSO. That is certainly not the story on their side.

It dawned on me, Verizon has the "wired" cable system in Tampa Bay, but you alwasy see ads for DirectTV. Too bad we can't put ads on OSO telling people to check out SOS.
