Start by reviewing medical history and habits.

Put a team together to start the research BEFORE deciding to give an across the board health care benefit to everyone regardless of self destructing habits.

Now we are getting back to what Clay was trying to say.........even tho he had that foot in mouth disease ;)

The big problem with Clay's thinking is........ as mentioned above.....who is going to make the decision as to what illness was caused by obesity that was caused by the individual rather than caused by another underlying cause or causes not causing a problen from obesity.

Right.....the government will set up a department to evaluate the causes for coverage or deletion of coverage.

Then they can set up Departments of cause for Drinking, Drug usage, Diabetes, Pen!s Problems, Cooter corruption, Animal seduction regulation, etc.......

:)

Oby-won has proposed a "council" of 5 people, appointed by the POTUS, to decide all things healthcare.

Less than 18 months until we have a good chance to stop this guy in his tracks. If we can get to the next recess we might have a chance...

Now, I have not read Every post because , well, it pis ses me off. I want Smaller friggen Gov! and I'm listening to people want the gov MORE involved.... Where to start.......

The original post is a great premise and I agree with a lot of it in theory, but how the heck do you enforce it, like others have said where do you draw the line. Fat, smoke, drugs, alcohol, tanning beds, risky behavior (sports, hobbies) the list goes on. I have two neighbors that are at least 50 to 100 lbs overweight, neither are on any meds and hardly have to go to the doctor, yet I know 5 people in the neighborhood that have had lots of expensive surgery done because of risky sports, and others that are always getting some type of test because they think they have a problem. Heck, Ian had expensive surgery because he fell watersking, if he had not water skied that day our insurance company would have saved thousands. I also know several people that are normal weight, yet their blood pressure, cholesterol, and triglycerides are very high. They continue to eat bacon, ice cream, all sorts of fatty food and drink a bunch of Pepsi's each day all while taking prescriptons to control the problem. Since they are lucky and manage to stay at normal weight they get a pass while fat people would have to pay extra. Also while there are plenty of legit stories of why working people can't pay for health care there are many that opt out and spend their money on other things while some scrimp and give up things to pay for their families health insurance. I know both types and some of those without health insurance actually make more money. A lot of the ones that opt out of paying for their own insurance work in cash jobs like home improvement contractors, cleaning people, lawn care etc so. It's usually a double whammy because they usually make more than what if any is reported to the IRs. This is such a big problem that I would not know where to begin to make it fair.

I have high tryglerides that is mostly attibuted to genetics. My dad has high triglecerides and has watched his diet for over 30 years, and NEVER cheats on it.

Cuda, that is where this healthcare issue should be going, towards people like you who truly need it. Fix the honest hard working people who need healthcare, not us. I don't need the government looking over my shoulder messing up my insurance. I worked in a hospital for many years in Illinois and no one, I repeat no one was turned away. They received their treatment and paid if they could. If not they filed for bankrupcy or went back to Mexico. It was a Catholic hospital and a member of a large organization of Catholic hospitals. Until the illegal immigrant problem got out of control the last 10 years or so the hospital operated at a not for profit. Between donations, fund raisers, government payments, medi care and medi-aid, they didn't make money, but they didn't lose money. Now it is out of control, the emergency room had become a clinic and they have closed their doors. This is the future, control tort reform and illegal immigrants and our private healthcare costs will be affordable without big brother contoling you.

That's the problem here in Deland. Too many non-English speaking people who haven'[t even bothered to learn our language, that use the ER's as clinics. The last thing I want to do is go to the ER, but if it's a question of going to the ER, or the morgue, the ER is going to win everytime. Like I told a guy from the state yesterday,NOBODY gives more of a damn about my health than I do. I've been paying in for 37 years in taxes, and never collected a penny.

It's truly amazing, there are no fewer than 3 different stories on obesity all of a sudden on Drudge right now. And there is one common denominator-they all discuss TAXES and TAX MONEY to combat obesity. And it is all being driven by....wait for it....the CDC, which is a gov't entity. Our guardians in Washington could care less how healthy or happy people are, it is ALL about the money. And the fact they can throw in just a little more control over our lives, hell that is just a bonus..... Just like the "Anti-Smoking" nazis, they want us all to be healthier so they tax the crap out of cigarettes, now they are lamenting the fact that revenues are down because people aren't smoking as much :cuss: First it will be a soda tax, then a Twinkie tax, then a butter, egg, and cheese tax, and on, and on, and on.......

Maybe what you guys need is a 50cent tax on every single "SuperSized" order of any fast food. That money could be used to fight obesity related problems and fund anti obesity education and reform.
McDonalds, Wendy's, In and Out etc etc etc times several million "SuperSizes" per day time $.50 each equals one heck of a load of fresh money to fight the fat doesn't it?

I will say, as an outsider looking in, every time I travel to the US, I can't help but notice that there is a very LARGE portion of your population that is...........VERY LARGE.

It doesn't surprise me. I went to Michigan a month back and had breakfast at a "Family Eating Place" one morning. I ordered a standard breakfast. Eggs over easy, sausage and toast with coffee. The PLATTER they put down infront of me had 3 eggs, 6 sausages, a bowl of sausage gravy, grits, toast swimming in butter and one little slice of orange.

No way in He ll I could eat that much food for breakfast without ballooning up like more than half of the folks who were there eating breakfast too.

The American meal plan seems to rely heavily on one word, no matter what the style of food or the meal of the hour is.
That word is simple. It is just four letters long.

MORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So, maybe a "SuperSize" tax could raise funds to re educate the American population about the pitfalls of eating like Two American people instead of one. :)

simple get around, they would just order 2 regulars.:)

I'm thinking a graduated fat tax.....

10 grams saturated fat, 10%, 45 grams saturated fat, 45%........

Should work.......

And think of how much money would be saved in gas alone...

Heck, cars would be driving around with 400 less pounds in them, probably a 20% improvement in mileage..

And air conditioners would only have to run half as much...

And planes could have smaller seats for smaller people plus get improved mileage.

and.......

How much was it and what's the address????

Did you pay with that Colored Northern play money??

:USA:

Then simplify it. Charge the producers of fast food 10% flat fat tax. The in turn bump their prices 10 points and the get around is gone. :)

This is the US government, don't be confusing them with having any common sense.....
