Obama pledges $100M in aid. isn't that nice?

That's ok, I'm sure he can just go ahead and tax the "rich" to make it up.

I have mixed feelings on this...Haiti is a poor country incapable of dealing with a castatrophe of this magnitude. Do we stand by and simply watch or do we help? I think we should help, but at what price?

Do you care how many dimes you spend in a day? Would you throw all the change in your pocket into a charity bucket? This is the problem we have, 100 MILLION dollars is pocket change as far as our leaders are concerned.

A poor corrupt country with no economy. if we help..is that not just prolonging their suffering??? What would Darwin do?

I understand and agree that we have to help. But the help should be limited to immediate relief and life saving. after that, you're on your own kiddos. Looks like it make or break time for their country.

I think some coordinated effort from the US would show we have good intentions, which can't help but improve the US' image (to outsiders) if you care about that sort of thing....

And plus, if we every happen to have a disaster here of that scope, I sure Haiti will be the first ones to send help our way :willy_nilly:

The world has proven that it has a VERY short memory for moments when the US helps them out, whether the cost is money or blood. Just ask a Frenchman or a Finn.

I feel that charity should start at home.

Y'all don't seem to understand the big picture...

Haiti is Obama's Katrina!

The American people (as well as the world) are looking to Obama to "save" these people in need. He has to do something that seems "big".

Just my jaded two-cents... :(

I suppose that some comparison between Haiti and Ray Nagin's New Orleans is appropriate.
Corruption, poverty, apathy, no building codes and Voodoo.

Plus - One million (or more) people without food, water, shelter, clean toilets, electricty, etc.

It will get real bad, real quick! :(

Everyone hates us until they need something. In typical fashion, Our chief Nobel laureate wasted no time dusting off his superman cape. I wonder how much the other G8 nations will be donating.

And the first thing he does is ask George W Bush, "the worst person on the face of the Earth", to work with cigar Bill and raise money for this gig. The sad thing is that since funneling aid money to corrupt pols and businessmen is a booming industry down there, a huge portion of any aid money that comes in will likely be misappropriated. :(

Here's a question. Was the Domenican Republic affected by the earthquake?? I haven't heard one thing about that country....and they share the same island??

Just wondering:confused::confused:

The short answer is no. The quake was centered in Haiti. It did not spread to the other side of the island.

It's the same as a quake in Los Angeles doesn't affect Las Vegas.

Thanks. I looked at maps.live.com and the portion of it that is Haiti looks like it is less than 1/2 of the island.

bulldoze the island, load the formaldhyde fema trailers on a barge (complete with there current residents as 'reconstruction experts') and call it done. There we helped.
