Noxcat

Well, YOU among other people asked for it last year, so we changed that rule, here we are a year later and you want another concession. "IF" someone were to build a boat to run in the class or show up with one, then it would be talked about. The problem is, I don't know how you think it would ever be made to be fair.

You can't make the guys with the boat now add weight, so the new guy coming in for a race or two a year can be competitive. You can't take enough weight out of a new or old boat to make up the difference. The 300XS boats out there are 5-8 mph slower top end than a 280 boat, I have no idea how they run between 75-105 which is where we race at.

That is part of the problem, the 2.5 280, is what it is and has been since 1998. We all run 2:1 gears, all the boats run withing 5mph of each other in race trim. There are 35 + of these boats in the world. You can't TAX the current RACE BOATS is someone wants to run there pleasure boat.

The 300XS has a different torque curve. Different HP, Different Gear Ratio, Different RPM.......were would you want to start to make this work? I don't know? You've asked it to be allowed, it was, before you ask for something else, someone PLEASE show up with a boat. As far as I know there IS NOT a full canopied , 300XS cat out there so until there is the point is kind of mute......

some people would like to be able to use their race boats as pleasure boats.
i was just trying to get a sense of what your thought was on that aspect.

theres a lot of guys, i think that would like to have a race boat and still have go-fast pleasure boat. honestly, i not trying to irratate you just wondering your opion.

having owned cats with 300x's and having been around people that have used the 2.5s for pleasure and race the 300xs would fill that gap for both race and pleasure.

next, i think thers a lot of people would like to do some races but don't have the money for just a purpose built race boat.

just throwing ideas out there.

put some 300xs's on this and see how it runs...

ryan, i didn't know i had so much pull. next i'll be blamed for sbi not having the TV.

honestly though, when i built my 32, it was a choice between 300x's or inboards. i got some input from colabella and big john and decided to go with inboards.

back then big john was working on engines for a couple of o/b teams. the feedback i got was the costs of running a cat o/b was high, atleast the way the teams he was working for ran their program. we've already been thru the build times and costs on early threads.
my point was i didn't know people like you back than and from the people i asked the 2.5 was the only choice for racing. so i went with inboards. if the choice of running 300xs are there then good. i think it would be cool to see someone run that package.

so maybe, someone here will see this thread and say : hea i always thought about having a race boat but still wanted a pleasure boat. this might be a cool option.

The stock 2.5/280's we just took apart off of my boat, last had new pistons put in them in October of last year. We RACED 10 races on them AND the gearcases since KW of last year till now. I am putting new pistons in now and rebuilding the gearcases. I know some people think they have to rebuild every 2-4 races but that is only if you have money to burn....The 280 IS a great motor and VERY reliable when it is run STOCK at 8200rpm.

GB ran either 7 or 8 races before freshening his before LOTO, thats pretty much a full season as well.

When I was talking to Ryan, and Rick, about the 2.5's, it surprised me how reasonable they really were to run one season and then rebuild barring misfortune. I'd also heard the expense was tremendous per season compared to an IO boat.

Just don't expose them to an open flame and your good .... :willy_nilly:

I know a few outboard guys that race and pleasure run there boats for 2 plus years before rebuilding them.

Sean, I know the tunnel is wider and it is cut down but are the running surfaces different than the previous model?

I don't know how much is actually different or not, if I could read Italian better I probably could tell ya more....

The new DW should be interesting if it can run with these smaller new boats like Nicolin's.
