According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, government accounts for about 8% of jobs in the United States. Here's the breakdown using numbers easily accessible on the BLS website (all numbers from 2006 or 2007):

1,774,000 Federal government civilian employees, excluding Post Office
615,000 Post Office
1,172,913 Military enlisted
230,577 Military Officers
2,424,000 State government (excluding education and hospitals)
5,594,000 Local government (excluding education and hospitals)

That's a total of 11,810,490 government jobs.

The total number of jobs in the U.S. in 2006 was 150,600,000, so government employment makes up 7.84% of all jobs.

In 2007, the U.S. population (according to the Census Bureau) was 301,621,157, so about 4% of Americans are employed by the government.

The other 40% work for big business.

Try again!

Didn't he go to Copenhagen to attempt to get the Olympic committee to choose Chicago for the games? He made a personal appearance JUST LIKE he did for Coakley and the other Democratic candidates who subsequently LOST their elections. I just don't see how this is a stretch at all.

Come on Jay. Admit you were sucked-in by the Messiah and his BS. If you had been in Chicago for the post victory party, would you too have been chanting: "obamaaaa, obamaaaa" like the mindless followers there thinking they had a free ride for life? Did you actually believe the rhetoric? Do you think the things the dems have been doing are actually GOOD for this country? Do you believe in GOD, Jay? Do you believe in ME, Jay? Do you WANT the United States of America to become a socialist nation? Do you think we're better off with a government controlling our health care that can't even run the agencies they already control?

Jay, I'm losing it here. PLEASE I need your answers so I can continue with my life. I don't want to be labelled a zealot because the wrong party is in control. HELP ME!!!!!!!!

DAMN:eek:

We ran a check on Containers going out mostly scrap and raw material like a third world nation.

You need to check with the Department of Commerce. Our primary export is manufactured machinery- about a third of total exports.

When I see graphs on extremist sites, I'm hesitant to believe it. Even when they quote government sources. Seeing it on Dept. of Commerce sites means a little more.

We checked the Containers ,they are free of Government spin. Our machine tool base is about gone, the Chinese are big players in the machine export business.

Dude LMAO What goes to say China..

Dude LMAO What goes to say China..

We exported about $65 billion to China last year. Bought about $200 billion.

Steve- I'd like to spend a day going through your house looking at all those American-made products of yours. And I'm assuming your primary means of transportation is a pair of tennis shoes, since no automobile made is constructed without a significant quantity of imported parts.

We checked the Containers ,they are free of Government spin. Our machine tool base is about gone, the Chinese are big players in the machine export business.

That's going to be a big surprise to the machine tool industry. According to the Dept of Commerce, 29% of our total exports are machinery.

I know a couple dozen people in the precision machining business. They got hit hard with imports 10 years ago. Today they're busier than ever. The imported stuff was so bad that it cost more to fix it when it arrived than if they'd have just bought quality tooling here. Those buyers are now coming home.

I always make an effort to buy American,While abroad all my input was imported from the states Core/Glass and hardware by 40' Containers, My personal tools of course are American.

But the White House has an idea for how to get it back up again.
What they're going to do is bring back Bush and Cheney for a week."

Come to Cincinnati, I'll drive you around and show you where Americas machine tool Ind. USED to be, before being sold overseas...

I think the "Machinery" they refer to may be Heavy Eguip..I know exports are a huge part of Cats and Deeres production

Carter did some pretty significant damage to our economy.

Reagan spent quite a few $$ too. Crushing the Soviets without shooting and bombing them was very expensive. It was masked by a tremendous economic expansion fuelled by our transition from an almost exclusively manufacturing and agricultural economy and moving into technology. Take a look at the stock market growth curve from 1960 to present and you'll see a graphic illustration. Without that boom, we might have found ourselves in a pinch.

chris I think your overlooking the fact that reagan created that economy by lowering taxes something that is lost on liberals like Obama.
