We watched it last night and I loved it.Might be because I am a long time fan of the original TV series and the early movies. Never cared for the later re-incarnations.Someone who is not familiar with the TV series would not pick up on some of the parallels ,like some of McCoy's remarks,Kirk's sometimes off the wall actions,Spock's emotional side,etc. Even the green skinned woman has a connection to the original tv pilot with Pike. Of course you may also be an old fan like me and hated it for the same reasons I loved it.:cheers2:

Exactly! My wife put this DVD in my stocking and we watched it last night for the second time. Even better than the first. Picked up on some important tid bits of info I missed the first time around. Looking forward to the third.

40 years of sci-fi and tv history has to be taken into account with every Trek show or movie.

If they mess up the hard core Trekkie's will raise hell.

As a fan of the original series I am pleased with the efforts taken to make the film true to the series' roots.

The most successful Trek movies were true to the TV series. The first one was almost a remake of "The Changeling" TV episode. "The Wrath of Khan" was a continuation of "Space Seed".Hard core fans were ready to burn Fred Freiberger(3rd TV season producer} at the stake for airing stupid episodes.The new movie is true to the beloved 1st 2 TV seasons.If you mess with that,the fan base gets upset.Even tho some of the current fans were not even born when the TV series aired,they are still adament about what makes a real Star Trek movie

I watched the movie tonight and thought it was great!! Might watch it tomorrow night to catch the subtle things you miss the first time.

Got it for Christmas, watched it once and liked it. Not perfect but they seemed to "get it". And it was the standard Star Trek story, and invincible enemy that they use cunning to infiltrate and eventually kill off.

Movie was OK. Special effects made up for some of the story problems.
While I believe multiple universes and dimensions, string theory, folding space, etc. time travel, backweards not possible. Everything expends and moves through space. No matter how and what dimension. Even if a particle may occupy the same space in different universe or be in the same time in different space, you can't have both.
No two particle may occupy the same space at the same time.
So going back in time, you need to go back to the same space AT THE SAME TIME. The place, (IE: Earth) already LEFT that space, it's traveled away from it. Time can travel backweards if all movement is backweards. But if time goes backweards, you never left to return. Thus the PARADOX.
