New gun restriction bill..

You want to pass a gun law that works? Lets pass a law that sends repeat firearms offenders directly to the chair w. out trial. It would take less than a dozzen very public fryings to watch gun crimes come to a screetching hault.

When are people gonna get it through their thick fuking skulls that guns obtained by criminals are sledom purchased legally.

Amen to that brother, when will they get it, take away our guns and only the criminals will have them.

The Constitution needs nothing.

And we don't need a single additional law.

What we need is for politicians to stop pretending to do something about violent crime and begin enforcing the laws.

Banning guns is the cheap and easy way out. It will look good briefly but won't really do anything. Killing was around for eons prior to the invention of the firearm. People will continue killing each other until we remove those so inclined from the gene pool.

I know what you guys are saying.. Ive read the constitution and the founding fathers were definately very intelligent and put alot of hard thought into what they wrote. But, its been over 200 years since that was written. Im just saying some things need to be updated or addressed in keeping with new technology and changing society. Plus, when the constitution was written, was after we just won our independance from a tyrannical and oppressive British government. When British soldiers were allowed to take up accomodations in peoples homes. The idea was that the population would be properly armed to be able to resist a corrupt government if the fledgling United States would become such. Well 200 years have since passed. To properly repel a corrupt government, you would need to have citizens armed with tanks, fighterplanes, explosives, smart weapons, etc. when was the last time a friend called you to come over and take a look at his new tank? It would be pretty cool to have one. Some rich people do but they are not functional pertaining to the armaments.

Firearms in this country have been relegated to self defense, home defense, sporting, hunting or collecting. By law abiding people anyways. The criminals us it for an entirely different reason. I dont advocate an outright ban on weapons. I advocate responsible ownership and I think there should be severe penalties when criminals use them or people use them for criminal acts. I dont have all the answers and am by no means in a position to "rewrite" the constitution. I just think some things need a second look.

This is quite possibly one of the dumbest things I have seen on SOS.

And that is such a witty response from yourself.. Im actually dissappointed.

These are my opinions. Just like everybody else has opinions. I'd say more but im too tired from burrying three of my friends today who were killed by some guy who was soo paranoid that they were going to take his precious guns from him. Three guys who all took an oath to uphold the constitution. And if someone doesnt think there are problems right now or the simple answer is to stockpile weapons, you live in a bubble..

Sorry. I was really tired when I wrote that. (I stand by it, but I should have been more tactful.)

And sorry for your loss. Sad that the killer didn't have the decency to take his own life or let the SWAT team do it.

I agree with you on x's response. Intelligent debate is always good. But I do disagree that the individual in Pittsburgh was you're typical 2nd amendment advocate. He was serioiusly mentally ill.

I mourn the losses of your fellow officers, as I'm certain you do. I'm certain it's a tough time for you to be engaging in this debate. But I do know this- for each tragic loss that occurs from the misuse of firearms, many more lives are preserved by armed, law-abiding citizens.

The answer is not to stockpile weapons and ammunition, but if you are an enthusiast/hobbyist and the people that hold domain over this issue come out and tell you they want to rid the world of firearms, a person does have to consider the possibility that what they purchase in the near future might be it for the rest of their lives.

I venture to say that RWI's thoughts would be supported by the vast majority of police chiefs and officers in this country. When you become a police officer and walk a mile in his shoes, ONLY THEN will you have the right to call his opinions dumb.

I spend a substantial amount of time with LEO's. I understand their perspective intimately and have great respect and admiration for the job that they do.

Law enforcement has a very practical perspective on the topic- every firearm that they're not in control of presents a potential threat to their safety and well-being. Having no guns whatsoever in public hands makes their job a much easier one. But that doesn't necessarily serve the greater good of the population, nor is it constitutional. Countries that have greatly restricted or barred firearms have all seen a significant upward trend in crime, specifically in violent crime. And while every officer's duty-related death is a tragedy, banning firearms would cause a significant and grossly disproportionate rise in violence within the civilian populace.

Banning guns is a cheap and easy way for people who pretend they care about other people to find a solution that makes themselves feel better. But it's a fallacy. Firearms are pretty far down the list of our social ills. And they're all man-made. Heart disease (fat, lazy people) puts more people in the ground that anything else. Tobacco, alcohol and automobiles are right up there too. You want to saye many times the lives that are lost top firearms? Make it a mandatory 20-years for supplying anyone under 25 alcohol and require they drive 10,000 lb cars with 50 horse engines.

X-Rated and Chris. Thanks for your condolences.. Sometimes we agree and sometimes we dont but I always enjoy our disscussions on various topics. Like stated before. I am not a fan of any type of outright ban. I dont think that law abiding citizens should not be allowed to own firearms. Typically a ban is used as a simple solution to a complex problem. Simple solutions towards either end dont work. What we are dealing with is how do you have responsible legislation that limits criminals access but does not infringe upon the rest of the populous. Personally, I think if the judges would simply throw the books at any criminal cought using a firearm it will solve alot of problems. The situation we just faced here in Pittsburgh is definately more unique. He was not a typical collector nor 2nd ammendment supporter. He is definately on the radical fringe. I would not assume that all supporters of the 2nd ammendment would go to the same extremes to protect their guns. But I do think its indicative or the unnecessary paranoia many have about loosing their guns.. And that worries me. Traditionally, I am more likely to get killed in a motor vehicle accident at work than by a gun.

Thank you gentleman

If your point was that he was kind of harsh, I could agree.
But your point regarding the "right" to his opinion is logically flawed.

If X Rated were a gun owner, law school graduate, and officer of the court... then would he have the right to an opinion of a police officer's opinion regarding the legality and constitutional protections involving firearms?

And is it people who have never owned a gun, been to law school or been an officer of the court who are the arbiters of these rights?

I just picked up a new AR Saturday and ordered a Ruger LCP 380.; now if I can just find some pistol ammo. This is ridiculous. At this rate they won't have to worry about a gun ban.

I swear and it's just getting worse. The ammunition thing is worse now that it was in January. there just isn't anything available.

Found a 1000 ct 9mm American Eagle plinkers at Sportsmans in stock but had to overpay for them. I'm going to place an order with Cabellas; they indicate 1-2 weeks back order...we'll see.
