My Whipple / Raylar / Mahopac Marine 496 project

I got started today preping my motor for it's trip out to Raylar Engineering www.raylarengine.com. I realize this is a rather tame project compared to the normal motor projects on this forum. But this is my first marine motor project. Even thou I'm in real good hands with Mahopac & Raylar everyone's input is appreciated since I have alot to learn.

Soon after purchasing my 08' 288 Sunsation I installed as phase one a Whipple Supercharger , Imco full Hyd steering , XR Drive and a few other bells and whistles.

The plan for phase two is to have Ray rebuild the motor with all his Supercharger rated goodies crank , rods , cam , alumium heads etc... and upgrade to a Dana exhaust.

According to Ray the motor will be able to produce between 700 - 800 HP
depending on how much boost I run . Due to reliability and my XR drive I'm looking for somewhere in the 700-725HP range.

I'll update this thread with some pic's & details as the project moves along . And as I said I would like to hear any input anyone my have.

Below is a pic taken today at Mahopac Marine's Shop of the motor being preped & a pic of a similair Whipple / Raylar 496 project .

Thanks, wish me luck

Should make a nice package when its all done. Good luck with the build.

really need to be easy on the drive, with a single with that much power, it'll kill the bravo's. Raylar is a great builder,

:iagree:I'm definatley going to take it easy on the stick this season . A new drive is not in the fun budget for sure. Ray has been a pleasure to deal with and he picks up the phone.

You are going to be happy with the power increase. My friends motor is the one you used as a reference photo in your first post. He did the aluminum head upgrade as well, also added a -2" lower. First run was yesterday. It tacked on a solid 30 Mph on the GPS. I would say it actually added about 40 mph because his previous best was not even close to obtainable every time out. As with any new install, He still has prop testing and tuning to do so i am sure more is available. Enjoy the new power!
