My Wednesday Rant.... Have to laugh at myself

Virginia DMV........

Renewing my tags for two of my vehicles that expire in November. My car has regular tags. Two years - $75.50. My truck, a 3/4 ton Chevy, with personalized tags and no special GVW's or anything. Two years - $117.50. So I'm paying $42.00, or $21.00 a year, extra for stickers to stick on my personalized license plates that I already have. At that rate, in a few years I could pay a machinist to cut me some personalized plates out of billet aluminum on a CNC machine.

Don't stop there....don't you have to pay personal property taxes on the vehicles also? :D AND, depending on which county you're in, you need a bi-annual inspection right? Luckily I was only a transient when I was up there.

Here in FL we pay sales tax at original purchase plus annual registration. Annual regs are based on curb weights and were pretty much in line with yours....until FL hiked fees starting yesterday.

My boat trailer tags are $248 here in Maryland. I haven't towed my boat on the street in 2 years!!!:cuss::cuss::cuss::cuss::cuss:

I just renewed my 2005 Chevy 3/4 truck. $421!:ack2:

I don't have personalized plates. I figure anything that I want to say on a plate can be put on a sticker for a lot cheaper!

This just proves my point. we all need to rally our politicians to adopt a consumption tax and alleviate these other nuisance fees. I say 16% national sales tax, no property taxes, minimal income taxes. Let the foreign tourists support our government.

I think the higher amount is based on truck vs car and I would not complain about the fees. In MI we pay yearly and my 2008 G6 costs $110.0 each year and Ian's 07 truck is $152.00 we don't have any personal tags.

I've seen estimates where the National (Flat) tax would have to be in the 30% range to meet what they are currently spending. And it could have zero exemptions. Would have to include all goods, all services, and all value added operations.

I have to renew mine this month. :ack2:

$202.61 is what I'll pay in Ohio taxes for 3 Vehicles.
