My Crappy Gear Lube Pump...

...Keep pumping about 50% lube and 50% air when I was refilling my drive today. Should I be worried about all those air bubbles getting trapped somewhere?

Any recommendations for a quality lube pump?

As long as u fill up from the bottom of the drive,,,no problem. The air will go back out thru the res.

My Pump ,,,i bought in Walmart,,,for 9 bucks and worx 100 %,,,the bigger one i have ,,,( bucket pump ) is from harbor freight,,and also was cheap,,worx 100 %.

I think u need to check the pump u have,,and maybe replace an o-ring in it or a gasket somewhere.

Yup, I always fill the drive from the bottom.

Get a universal garden sprayer hand pump. I have the old style merc hand pump that threaded on. I installed the tube and fitting from the merc pump on the garden sprayer pump. Be sure the gear lube is warm it pumps easier.

This is too fast,,,u want to fill it easy so the lube goes everywhere between the gears and pushes out the air,,,with this u will great air !!

I thought it might work with a variable speed drill on super slow.

I use a delco electric fuel pump ( solenoid type ) I mounted it on a piece of plywood, connected two 6 foot rubber fuel lines to it, used the screw in type fitting from one of those crap mercury pumps and stuck gator clips on 10 feet of wire to power it from one of the boats batteries. It doubles as my engine oil removal pump as well.

Bmax holds a lotta oil and I feel for ya! I've never really used the small pumps in all these years. I've either used the sprayer and almost always use a 5 gallon pail pump.

Whenever I buy gear oil I always buy 5 gallon pails so this kind of pump is easiest for me.

I have a 2 gallon garden sprayer that I bought at the Home Depot (they make them as big as 4 gallons I think). Cut the sprayer off the end of the tube and clamp a short piece of hose and the screw fitting for your drive to it. Keep the squeeze valve on and use a rubber band or small clamp to hold it open for long fills. Now fill the tank with lube, screw in the fitting, pump it up and block the valve open, usually you only have to pump once and the thing is full hands-free in about 10 minutes. Total cost was about $20.
