With 5 Locations, the 2022 Miami International Boat Show Goes Big—and the Crowds Follow

We only went to two of the locations. To me, this was a big downside of the move back to the convention center from the Miami Marine Stadium. People complained about getting to and from the Marine Stadium, it would take an hour or an hour and a half. But, everything was there. At the new Covention Center, it still takes an hour to get to the other venues from the Convention Center, but then it would take an hour to get to the boats in the water also. My opinion, the other venue was a much better show by the last year it was there.

Don't get me wrong, in the beginning the traffic at the Marine Stadium, and the way they handled it, completely sucked!!

First oversight from the press.

Organizers estimate 100,000-plus attendees visited the show during its five-day run. Builders reported strong sales across most categories.

The test rides were really a mess this year. The new location was right in the middle of one of the normal Manatee areas, so they had problems.

They increased the idle length, and if a Manatee was sighted, they completely shut it down. Mercury, who probably does more test rides than anyone, said they had to change their ride schedule to once every two hours. A long idle out, a long idle back. And, every boat had a pink flag on a pole, if you broke the idle rule, the patrol boats came and took it and you were done, no exceptions.

We spoke with Greg and Yvonne about their new DW 37. They were happy because it made for a lot less hours on their new boat than they were expecting.

One of the biggest complaints we heard, cost.

Many builders we usually see there were not there, just like us with Skater and John with Mystic. Plus several others, including a couple of the biggest displayers every year, said they will not be back unless costs are lowered. Not enough return to cover their huge investment this year.

One we chatted with said $130,000 just for the floor space for three boats. Another said over a million for their very large space.

We shall see.

We = Peter, Tony, and Michael from Skater and others we talked with there who were showing.

Later Peter and Steve discussing trailer design, boat design, and the 1100 class rules and event schedule.

While Michael and Tony check out the ladies walking by I think.
