Mercury Racing's New Turbocharged Engines Unveiled

Comes in 10 colors- including new "Bling Bling Black" but that "Dandy Candy Red" looks sharp. As bad as this package is, not sure if I could get use to any thing called "Nanna Yellow Pearl" even though I like the color.

1300 hp, 200+ hours, pump gas and significantly decreased fuel consumption, with warranty... big claims, if it turns out to be true the world of big power just shifted on its axis

Awsome advances in tech and way more power with less often rebuilds. BUT call me old school I still perfer loud supercharged engines, they at least look cooler and I know they sound cooler. Just my opion

When merc builds a new combo like this how much in-water testing is done before the big announcement?

Steve, why are the DB's lower on a turbo engine?

Because of all the thermodynamic processes going on in the turbo, the exhaust gases are cooled as they pass thru it. As a result, the turbo acts like a muffler. The intake air gets heated up as it is compressed in a turbo or supercharger.

Is it just me, or does it look like the exhaust is designed to exit the transom below the water line????

Talk about sounding like a ski boat?? hat means that all you would hear is turbo whine going across the water and that would be sick.

how come they went to all that trouble to make an engine and they left the dry sump pump, belt driven on the outside like they forgot about it????

Partially.

You're no longer dealing with a series of explosions exhausting out the back of the exhaust. Each pulse is somewhat "captured" inside the manifold. The turbo's exhaust is more of a stream.
