Madoff gets off easy...150 years.

Hope they get everything his family has... And I mean everything.....

They are closing in.....family money/assets was worth 177mm, they have agreed to release all but 2.5mm. That 2.5mm will be open to civil lawsuits so even her legal costs will sink her even before a judgement will. His sons have multi-million dollar "loans" from him that the govt. now considers outstanding loans they can collect so that will hurt when Uncle Sam decides to collect the money that was essentially a gift to them.

I think the family should be allowed to live outside of prison at the same level as the most suffering victim. So if a guy is 80 wiped out, living on social security then they should be allowed to do the same. I really thought Bernie was going to do a Peter Pan off the penthouse balcony before his trial to avoid prison but I guess he isn't that brave/smart.....

For whatever it's worth (probably not much to the victims of her husband's fraud), Mrs. Madoff has given up her claim to millions of dollars in joint assets. According to an agreement with United States prosecutors, Ruth will be left with $2.5 million. Sounds like a lot of money, but The Wall Street Journal reports that Mrs. Madoff may "still face claims" from government agencies like the SEC and trustees that are liquidating Bernie's assets.

Assuming she invests with a non-crook and isn't hit with more claims, Mrs. Madoff can expect to earn about $125,000 per year on her $2.5 million settlement. Adjusting to life on a fixed income will require a significant change in lifestyle. Still, that's a problem that many of her husband's victims would surely love to have.

She should run and hide.

I still say the ones that put 100% of their capital in his fund got what their dumb azzes deserved.

I also call BS on the idea that the ones left with nothing are trying to SUE the ones that were smart enough to cash out. Even years before he fell. I hope they spend every penny.

I can't argue that. Madoff deserves more hardship than sitting in jail.

Bubba's got a new cell mate with that smooth soft richboy skin... I can hear it echoing thru the prison walls.... "bend over bernie baby, this is for taking everything my grandmother had...."

Ruth's statement is BS......if she feels that bad she should forfeit the 2.5mm that she got to keep!

Ruth Madoff says she feels 'betrayed and confused'
By TOM HAYS
Associated Press Writer

NEW YORK — She's been hounded by news photographers, vilified by former clients of her husband and ostracized in high society.

She's also kept quiet for months — until Monday.

Ruth Madoff — memorably christened "The Loneliest Woman in New York" in a recent New York Times headline — finally spoke out after her notorious husband got a 150-year sentence that probably makes certain she'll never see him again outside of prison.

"I am breaking my silence now, because my reluctance to speak has been interpreted as indifference or lack of sympathy for the victims of my husband Bernie's crime, which is exactly the opposite of the truth," Madoff said in a statement issued through her lawyer.

Prosecutors say her husband's multibillion-dollar Ponzi scheme wiped out clients of his investment advisory firm while bankrolling an extravagant lifestyle for his family, including country estates, a yacht and international travel.

Mrs. Madoff, 68, hasn't been charged with a crime. But a judge's forfeiture order has stripped her of $80 million in assets including a penthouse apartment where she still lives. That's left her with $2.5 million that couldn't be linked to the fraud.

Since her husband's arrest late last year, negative publicity casting the Madoffs as soulless symbols of greed and excess has made her persona non grata at her regular hair salon, florist and favorite high-end eateries on the Upper East Side, the Times reported.

Her husband of nearly 50 years came to her defense while addressing the court on Monday, saying she "cries herself to sleep every night knowing of all the pain and suffering I have caused, and I am tormented by that as well"

Ruth Madoff, though not at the courthouse, later expressed her own sympathy for the victims.

"Many of my husband's investors were my close friends and family," she said. "And in the days since December, I have read, with immense pain, the wrenching stories of people whose life savings have evaporated because of his crime."

The statement didn't overtly condemn her husband, nor address the couple's future. But she suggested she identified with his victims who were blind-sided by his dark side.

"I am embarrassed and ashamed," she said. "Like everyone else, I feel betrayed and confused. The man who committed this horrible fraud is not the man whom I have known for all these years."

Who did she think she was married to? Mr. Rodgers??

Anything he got was going to be a life sentence....the guy is 70 yrs old. I think they should should have given credit for time served...released him to the streets penniless and then watch him struggle for a day or two before someone knocked him off.

He should spend everyone of his remaining days doing community service like picking up trash on the side of the roads and out of gutters. Scrapping gum off side walks it parks. Scrubbing off graffiti in public spaces......

I actually heard someone on TV say he may become a "big cheese" in jail for having pulled off such a heist. Apparently cons look up to cons. Plus there has GOT to be money out there the Feds will not find, money that will buy him all sorts of things in jail. Ask John Gotti......well, maybe not now.

John Gotti got his azz whipped in prison......he aligned with the white supremacy guys to put a hit on the guy who beat him up but the prison caught wind of it and had him moved.

Wikipedia quote: While in prison, Gotti offered $100,000 to the Aryan Brotherhood to kill Walter Johnson, a mentally unstable black inmate who had assaulted him. The Aryan Brotherhood accepted Gotti's offer. The prison guards surmised that Johnson was in danger, and moved him to a different cell block, ultimately transferring him to another prison where Johnson was eventually paroled.[6][7] Gotti, during a prison visit with his family was recorded saying: "Being a ****** is an embarrassment."[8]
