Lost a prop 5 blade 37Herring 16.5

Anyone have any leads on a RH 37P 5 Blade Herring 16.5 diameter
Please call Gerry
508-399-6440.

The lost prop was a direct result of not being able to get the
required torque (100ftlbs) out of the #6 Mcgard stern drive locks.
When these are reused the key starts to strip the brass tabs.

Thanks in advance
Gerry

Not sure how long the shaft is on a #VI drive, but in the past I have been able to stack both a factory prop nut and a McGard on a Bravo shaft. Perhaps you can shave down a factory prop nut (take off the ny-lock portion), and then stack the McGard behind it. This would give you theft and loss protection.

I have that yellow book right here in front of me Chris.:)

I was considering that option However no real means of locking
the props. Thread size is 1-14.

If it comes down to it Ill just yank the wheels.

I have two new nuts comming right from Mercury.
I want to see if they are different then the original ones I got
from Mcmasterr several years ago. (Before I went to the Mcgard locks)

I don't even leave props on in the shop. It's like screwing a Rolex watch to the hood of your car and parking it at the mall.

The jam nuts should leave enough thread for the McGard lock to screw over top.

Big Chubby Jeff was selling some nice, inexpensive prop boxes a couple years ago, maybe worth a PM. I'd buy 'em but all my props are cheap junk! :D

Their isnt enough room. I just pull the wheels, dont trust those locks anyway. If someone wants a set of $9000.00 Herings, those locks are not goin to stop them. Bought an electric impact and a socket. Takes no time to pull them off. I sleep better knowing they are not hanging out their like a couple of invitations to come and get me. Now I just worry about the drives, the way #6's were getting yanked off around the races and poker runs, its kind of scary.

You should be able to charge the boat with 10,000 volts and put a big sign on it saying touch this and die. OH and in spanish - Learn english or die.

Props

Just take them off everytime the boats comes out of the water. I have been doing that for years now. Even when I had Bravo Drives. It is a lot of work finding and testing and ending up with the best set that just the time alone of lossing them is not worth it. It might takes 3 or 4 weekends and 3 or 4 different sets just to get close to what you had before.

I always remove the props after each run. Thieves will steal the props and sell them as scrap: just to get a few hits.

Gerry- I have a pair of 16.5 x 37 Merc CNC 5 blades, 1200 HP rating if that helps.

Hey John how goes it?

The 1200hp dont think is up to par.

I have locks on the sixes and keep them trimed way down so they
cant get the lowers. Always had locks on props. I have a IR camera
aimed wright at back of boat. If they want them nothing will stop
them.
I have a Fisher underwater metal detector going for another dive
Sunday providing Hurricane Bill dont come down on us:willy_nilly:
